Matthew Joyles Evans, Jr.

Matthew Joyles Evans, 71, departed this earth on January 3, 2012, at his home in Princess Annem Maryland aftr a long illness.

He was born in Chance, Maryland on June 15, 1940, to the late Matthew Evans, Sr. and Eva Wright.  “Mac” as he was affectionately known, received his education in the Somerset County Public School system.  Matthew was self-employed for many years as a tile contractor.  He was also previously employed at Pinnacle and Amrick Foods.

Mathew was an avid fisherman who loved the water.  He also enjoyed cars and sports such as baseball, football and basketball.  Matthew during his early years attended St. Charles United Methodist Church in Chance, Maryland.  Later in life he attended Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne, Maryland.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Evans of Allen, Maryland and Brandi Evans of Salisbury, Maryland; one brother Jerome Evans (Lucinda) of Pleasantville, New Jersey; and a devoted nephew. Seth Jeffrey Bennett (Michell) of Charlotte, North Carolina.  He will also be missed by a special brother to the family, Thomas Travers of Princess Anne, Maryland; and two special daughters, Pamela Thomas and Michelle Parran (Marcus) of Baltimore, Maryland; a devoted friend, Phyllis Thomas of Salisbury, Maryland; a host of cousins and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by two children, Rodney and Amy Evans; two sisters, Sandra Shipley and Gwenda Williams-Hall; one brother, Thomas Williams and a special daughter, Kimberly Collins.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the funeral home in Princess Anne, Maryland.  Interment will be held at St. Charles United Methodist Church in Chance, Maryland.
