Larry Patrick “Skeek” Sterling

Larry Patrick Sterling, 63, born to the late George King and Ruby Sterling was born Crisfield, Maryland on July 6, 1948. “Skeek” as he was affectionately called completed this season on Friday, May 25, 2012, peacefully at his home with his family.

Larry attended Carter G. Woodson graduating in 1968. After high school he enlistedin the U.S. Army based in Neim, Germany and worked in nuclear weapons for two years reaching the rank of Specialist 4.  Larry received an honorable discharge in 1970 and returned home and worked for Mrs. Paul’s Kitchen.  He returned to the military in 1974, joining the U.S. Marines as an Infantry man based in Camp La June, North Carolina.

 

Upon returning home again, Larry was employed at Sears & Roebuck Co. in Crisfield as a shipping clerk; worked in Ocean City, Maryland as a tram operator for ten years; and worked at Advance Auto Parts in Pocomoke, Maryland for sixteen years until his retirement in 2009.

 

Larry was a dedicated father, loving brother and uncle, His contagious smile, endearing laugh, loving heart and words of wisdom will be missed by his family and friends and the entire community.

Larry leaves to cherish fond memories, one daughter, Adrienne Sterling of Salisbury, Maryland and one son, Travis Coulbourne of Princess Anne, Maryland; a devoted sister, Frances (Frannie) Sterling of Crisfield, Maryland; three brothers, McKinley (Peggy) Sterling of Dallas, Texas, Richard Sterling and Garfield King, both of Crisfield; a beloved niece, Beverly (Daniel) Lake of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Angelique Sterling and Keith “Hard Rock” Phillips; and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.                                                                       

 A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Union Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, where friends may call two hours prior.  Friends may also call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the church.  Interment will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Maryland.
