Sarah Virginia Maddox

Sarah Virginia Maddox, 86, of Westover daughter of the late Harry McKinley and Ollie Olivia Shreeves was born November 7, 1926 in Cottage Grove, Maryland.  She was called to eternal rest on Wednesday July, 10,2013.

Sarah “Virginia” or L.U. to family and friends, received her formal education in the Somerset County Public School System.  She was a lifetime member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Westover, Maryland. On December 28, 1945, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Detroit O. Maddox, Sr. From that union three children were born.  She was employed for many years in the seafood industry in Crisfield, Maryland.

Virginia was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.  She loved shopping and was well known for her love of hats.

Virginia leaves fond memories to be cherished by her children, Detroit O. Maddox, Jr. of Westover, Maryland; Gwendolyn D. Maddox of Columbia, Maryland and Dale T. Maddox of Fruitland, Maryland; one daughter-in-law, Norma Hall of Pearland, Texas; eight grandchildren,  DeAndre, Carlos, Troy, Carla, Joshua, Rachel, William and Timothy “TJ”; three great-grandchildren, Shamaya, Kavon and Ali; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry McKinley and Ollie Olivia Shreeves; one brother, William M. Shreeves; and her husband, Detroit O. Maddox, Sr.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 at John Wesley (Cottage Grove) United Methodist Church in Westover where friends may call two hours prior.  Reverend Moor Holloman will be the Eulogist.  Friends may also call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 at the church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.
