Hector Ching

Hector Ching, 82, of Princess Anne, departed this life on Friday, October 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by family.  Born October 21, 1930 in Panama City, Republic of Panama, he was the son of the late Chin Kin Sin and Sofia Ayarza.  Hector was the youngest of five children, and is survived only by one of four sisters, Felicita Ruiz and a cousin, Berta Leon, both of Colon.  He was a gifted musician and soloist, who loved to perform ballads throughout his native country.  He was popular among his peers for his athleticism and musical talents.  He was a strong man with a caring and kind heart, who was willing to give to anyone in need.  He studied liberal arts at Abel Bravo, and later continued his education at the historic Escuela Normal de Santiago.

While swimming at the City Waterfront, he met and married the love of his life, the former Eustacia Rodriguez.  To this union of nearly 61 years were born seven children.  He was employed by the Panama Canal Fire Department for 25 years.  Because of his hard work and dedication, he was promoted through the ranks to sergeant serving initially as a firefighter, then driver operator and later as an emergency medical technician.  After his retirement, Hector moved with his wife to Brooklyn, New York, where he resided for 10 years before settling on the lower Eastern Shore.  His love of high performance cars led him to become an accomplished mechanic.  He enjoyed watching his sons play baseball, and as a result became a huge fan of the New York Yankees.   As an avid reader and active political conservative, he enjoyed sharing his views on local and international affairs with his contemporaries. His sense of humor won the hearts of all that knew him.

He loved the Lord, his family and leaves to mourn his wife Eustacia of Princess Anne and children Hector Ching (Xenia) Brooklyn, NY, Vielka Miles (Lewis) Beltsville, MD, Amalia Ching, Brooklyn, NY, Leyda Ching, San Diego, CA, Omar (Rashida) Santiago, Chile, Ilka De La Cruz (Francisco), Colon, Republic of Panama, Gina Ching, Panama City, Republic of Panama, Mauricio (Yvette) Woodbridge, VA.  Twenty grand children, Jamil, Tyana, Tiffany, Tarick, Nichole, Keila, Valentino, Giovanka, Andre, Dina, Nuha, Jovira, Masiel, Franciso, Geaniselle, Sharon, Mauricio, Omar, Daphne, Mauricio Jr.  Nine great grand children Elias, Micah, Nemai, Azalia, Aliana, Alaissa, Ayolani, Anaya, and Astrid.

Like the Afro-Caribbean religious beat of the Congo, and the delicate and refined Chinese lute, Hector used the diversity of music to communicate his purpose and dreams for a better life.  And if you listened softly, you could hear him proclaim “Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the funeral home in Princess Anne.

Acknowledgements: The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the many expressions of love, comfort and kindness shown during this hour of bereavement.  May God Bless and Keep You!
