On Tuesday, December 30, 2014 our beloved daughter, mother, sister and friend Faneea Mozell Cottman, affectionately known as Aunt Nee` Nee` was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Faneea was born March 2, 1963 in Marumsco, Maryland, to the parents of Christopher Randolph Cottman and Corrine Elizabeth Cottman-Tull. She was known for her having an open heart for all people.
Faneea was educated in the Somerset County Public Schools, she graduated from Wor-Wic Technological College with an Associate Arts degree in Secretarial Studies; and also was a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration. She was employed at UMES for 25 years as an Administrative Assistant.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Cottage Grove in Westover, MD, from her childhood. She was a member of the Women’s Society, the Discipleship choir and a worship leader.
Faneea is survived by her fiancée, Aaemanuel Deas; her parents, Corrine Tull (Welton), Christopher Cottman (JoAnn); three children, Kelvin Jr. (Renee), Chastian and Kyra; three sisters, Crystal Stevenson (Thomas Jr.), Angel Braxton, Tyzanna Cottman (Jeffery) and one brother, Cassius Cottman Sr. (Cathy); five grandchildren, Tyshawn, LaQuan, Amaiyah, Kamryn and Katrice ; two aunts, Thelma Alexander and Christine Smith; one uncle, Hurley Smith and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Helen and Oscar Cottman, Elsie and William Smith, and a grandchild, Avier Enaz Terrell.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. James United Methodist Church in Westover with a viewing one hour prior. Rev. Carroll Mills will be the Eulogist and Rev. Moor Holloman will officiate. A viewing will also be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Church. Interment will be at John Wesley U.M.C. Cemetery.

My tears will not stop as I think of you my friend and sister in Christ you always had an encouraging word for me. I thank God for our time together and for all the special moments in my life you shared with me I will also love you for the person you were. It is always hard to say good-bye to someone you Love, Faneea you were such a special Lady, Every time we saw each other out and about, there would always be wonderful conversation and wonderful laughs and we would always end it by saying LOVE YOU, SEE YOU THE NEXT TIME!! You were the first person that I encountered at UMES in September 1996 and I am forever grateful for God placing you in my path on that day. The Department of Natural Sciences will never be the same and I have no real reason to visit Carver Hall anymore. I can’t stop crying when I think of you, but because I know you loved the Lord, I am at peace. Rest well my sister/friend and know that you made a difference in the lives of many.
Ms. Cottman was a face of the Department of Natural Sciences in UMES, a very good friend and colleague and really a woman with a big heart opened to help others. I cannot imagine our front desk without her. She will be always missed here. My prayers for her family and friends. Rest in peace, Ms. Cottman.
