Violeta “Cat” DeShields

DeShields

Violeta Deshields, 76 , daughter of the late Lettie and Edward Deshields was born October 22, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the residence of her daughter after a long illness.

Violeta was affectionately known as “Cat” by her family, friends and all that knew her. She was educated at Somerset Junior High School. Cat was a seamstress and most recently was a caregiver.

Cat received Christ as her Lord and Savior on November 30, 2015. She had a very kind heart and would feed anyone in need or offer them a place to stay when she had her own. She loved her grandchildren and great-grand’s and even the ones that weren’t her own. Cat loved court TV, game shows, crossword puzzles, sewing and crocheting. She loved going to her day center. She would often say in the mornings when she would be getting  ready to go to the center, “please make sure I am matching and don’t forget to put some perfume on me”. She would also demand that her nails be painted.

Cat leaves to cherish her memories:  one daughter, Gwendolyn (Lorenzo) Roberts of Columbia, SC; one son, Carnelius (Carlisa) Deshields of Princess Anne; four granddaughters, Michelle Hearne, of Salisbury, MD; Tyra Marshall of Germantown, MD; Keiona Deshields of Milford, DE and Shantay (Lee) Pierce of Altus, Oklahoma; one grandson, Avery Carnelius Deshields of Salisbury; seven great grandchildren; one special nephew whom was raised as her son, Reginald Deshields (Aushae) of Salisbury; six sisters, Juanita Deshields of Fruitland, MD, Rosalee Watkins of  Baltimore, MD, Victoria McRae (Rev. Henry) of Providence, Rhode Island, Olivia Cottle, Verna Sprowall and Millicent Dennis, all of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Robert (Maria) Deshields, of Marion Station and Ronald Graham of Philadelphia; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sisters; Georgia Henry, Laura Deshields, Malinda Watkins, Betty Ann Burgess and brother, Samuel Deshields.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Princess Anne with a viewing two hours prior.  Interment will be in Oaksville Community Cemetery in Princess Anne.

  1. My heartfelt condolence to the family and friends of Mrs. Violeta DeShields. The death of a loved one is hard to bear. Your heavenly father understands your pain as he too experienced the death of his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. Job 14: 14, 15 shows that God yearns to bring your dear loved one back to life.
