Billy Solomon Burgess, 69, of Marion Station, MD transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, November 21, 2016 at his home.  He was born on May 19, 1947 in Lake City, SC to Louise Hannah-Burgess and the late Johnny Burgess.

Billy received his education in the Somerset County School System and graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School in Crisfield, MD in 1967.  He matriculated to the University of Maryland of Eastern Shore and graduated in 1971.  His career path led him to become an Art Instructor in the Wicomico County School System where he retired after 35 years.

Some of his favorite hobbies were gardening and photography.  He was always planting and buying beautiful things to behold.  He planted apple trees, pecan trees, and grapevines.  At any family function or gathering (especially the Family Reunions), he was “the photographer”.  Sometimes there were no heads on the photos, but we enjoyed looking at them.  He was a lover of art, especially African American Art and unusual paintings and objects.  His favorite time of the year was Christmas.  He loved shopping, decorating and giving gifts to everyone.  He also extended his Christmas decorating talent to assist his sister, Dolly, at our church home in Maryland.

Billy loved watching Survivor with his sister, Clara and CNN with his mother, Louise.  He also cherished having conversations and discussions with his siblings.  His kind, loving, and unselfish heart is what we treasured so much about him and his tremendous love for us all.

In addition to his mother, Louise, he is survived by three brothers, Joseph Sr., Enoch (April) and Charles (Doreen) Burgess; four sisters, Clara Johnson (Rufus), Dolly Burgess, Geneva Hanna and Mary Burgess-Gregg (Frankie); four godchildren, Shayla, Alysha, Michael and Ariel Anderson, a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2016 at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Lake City, SC.  Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Lake City.

Further arrangements entrusted to Green’s Funeral Home in Lake City.
