Garnett Winston Brown, Sr.

Garnett Winston Brown, Sr., 85 of Crisfield, also known to family and friends as “Big Boy” departed this life suddenly after a lengthy illness on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, Maryland. He was born November 25, 1931 to the late Alonzo, Sr. and Nora Horsey-Brown.

He attended the Public School System in Crisfield.  He later joined the United States Army, he served from 1950 to 1953 and received an honorable discharge.  After returning from the service he began employment with Handy’s Seafood & Company in Crisfield where he stayed for over 50 years.

Garnett was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Crisfield.

He loved his family and friends, he would often sit on the porch talking to friends. Garnett loved watching baseball and cowboy movies.

He leaves to cherish fond memories of him, with his devoted wife of 45 years, Milkey Brown; four sons, Garnett Brown, Jr. of Crisfield, Gary Brown (Elmira) of Salisbury, MD and Stanley Brown (Shirley) of Crisfield and Toris Battle (Sheena) of Glen Burnie, MD; two daughters, Carolyn Weatherbe (Grover, Jr.) and Agnes Waters, all of Crisfield; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Barbara Brown, both of Crisfield; a very good friend, William Campbell, Jr.; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila Waters; his first wife, Mary Cottman-Brown; three brothers, Mayhew Murphy, Alonzo, Jr. (twin brother) and Donald Brown, Sr.; one sister, Pauline Trippet.

A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Saturday, December, 3, 2016 at Highway Holiness Church in Crisfield with a viewing one hour prior.  Interment will be held 1 PM Monday, December 5, 2016 at The Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Maryland.
