Gladys Christy Conner

G ConnerGladys Christy Conner, 69, of Crisfield, MD went home to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, MD. She was born on January 13, 1948 to the late Mervin Christy and Mabel White-Christy.

Gladys was educated in the Public Schools System of Somerset County Maryland.

Gladys worked for many years in the Seafood Industry. She was later employed at Shore Up, Inc. in various capacities including: Volunteer Foster Grandparent, Bus Aide, Custodian and Dietary. In 1997 she received the “Shore Up Volunteer of the Year Award” where she remained until 2006.

Gladys accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the former Union Asbury, U.M. Church in Crisfield, where she sang on the church choir. She also sang with the “Soldiers of the Cross”. After the closing of Union Asbury, her membership was transferred to John Wesley United Methodist Church in Marion Station, MD where she remained a faithful member and worshiper. She truly loved the Lord. One of her favorite scripture readings was Psalm 27: 1-4. Gladys loved music and some of her favorite gospel songs were: “Heaven on My Mind,” “Can’t Give Up Now,” “New Doctor” and “My Soul Has Been Anchored.”

“Mom” Gladys lived a full and prosperous life. One thing is for sure, she loved meeting new people. She had a hosts of friends and adored nurses both at the Nursing Home and Fresenius Medical Care Facilities. Every other day when she did not have dialysis she would attend Shady Pines Adult Daycare playing dominoes with the “fellas”. She loved spending time with her family the most, especially the car rides listening to her “favorite jams”. Her favorite two being, “No One” by Alicia Keys and “You’re So Beautiful by Empire”. From Ocean City water taffy to Dayton’s fried chicken she did not miss one beat. Pork skins, starlight peppermints, and Extra chewing gum were her snacks of choice. When it came to party time, Arbor Mist was her preferred beverage. When told she could not have certain things she would say “well, why not”? There was nothing that she did not believe she could not do.

She leaves to cherish loving memories with: her son, William Anthony Horsey of Salisbury, MD; her daughter, Kimbley (Arthur) Abbott of Crisfield, MD; five grandchildren, Gereka Simms, Te’Ona Collins (Derick), William Christy, E’N Dix and El’Tonynea Collins; three great-grandchildren, Ja’Kayla Ballard, Jazmyne Ballard; and the apple of her eye, Darius (Lil Homey) Thompson; one god brother,  Norvanda Sterling of Crisfield, MD and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Christy of Princess Anne, MD; two young ladies she had the pleasure of developing a relationship with: Rosa Hernandez and Tykelah Campbell; and a hosts of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Conner; a daughter, Gladys Christy-Dix; three sisters, Elizabeth Handy, Ruth Lee Ball and Brenda Lee Cannon; one brother, Melvin “Earlie Boy” Christy and two god brothers; John Day, Jr. and Myron Day.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Marion Station, Maryland with a viewing one hour prior.  Interment will be at Mount Peer Cemetery in Marion Station, Maryland.

My deepest sympathy for your great loss. Although pain and sorrow fills your hearts at this time, may you find comfort and strength in the Almighty God words at Psalms 34:18 “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit ”  It saddened him when we shed tears of sorrow. Our heavenly Father Jehovah gives us comfort and hope of seeing our dear loved ones again who have fallen asleep in death. Jesus promise at John 6:40.. the resurrection of our dear loved . May your warm memories also give you strength and comfort in these difficult times.
