Dola M. Jones

Dola Jones

Dola Mae Jones, 104, born on August 8, 1913 in Chance, Maryland to the late Arthur Jones and Mary Douglas Jones. Dola departed this life peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018 surrounded by her loving nephews and nieces.

Dola received her formal education in the public schools of Somerset County.  Dola worked for the Donohoe family until her health declined. She was tremendously fond of David and Peggy Donohoe.

At a young age she received her Christian training at St. Charles United Methodist Church in Chance, Maryland. Dola was saved by Dr. Billy Graham’s ministry and at a later age joined Trinity United Methodist Church.  Although a resident of Aurora Senior Living she faithfully devoted herself to the WOLC ministry until its closing. Dola loved listening to Christian ministry on the radio, reading her bible, and enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Dola had a great passion for taking care of those who were unable to care for themselves. She enjoyed visitors and always made you laugh.  Dola always enjoyed returning home to Oriole where she attended the Oriole flea market, there she would buy oyster sandwiches and ice cream for the nursing home staff. She touched everyone that she met.

She leaves precious memories with two special nieces, Shirley Poole and Maxine Jones; a special Cousin, Marva Davis, and a host of relatives and friends.

Dola was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Boots” Jones; two brothers, James and Arthur Jones and a nephew, Melvin White, that she helped to raise.

“Momma Dola” as she was affectionately called, will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, February 16, 2018 at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Princess Anne with a viewing one-hour prior.  Interment will be at St. Charles United Methodist  Church Cemetery in Chance, Maryland.
