Charles Thomas Hutt, Sr. was born on February 24, 1947 to the late Annie Mae Hutt. Charles was ushered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

Charles, affectionately known as Buddy, Charlie Hustle or Hutt, was educated in Somerset County Public Schools. He graduated from Somerset High School in 1965 where he played basketball and baseball.  For two years, he served in the United States Army and obtained a rank as Private First Class (PFC). Afterwards he became a licensed barber and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Charles and Mary were united in holy matrimony on January 1, 1977.  Together they cultivated a bonding relationship between themselves, their families and community. He was widely known, in his hometown, as a mentor and father figure to many of the young people.

Over the years, Buddy worked various jobs before his career as a Correctional Officer at Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI) in Westover, Maryland.  On January 1, 2010, he retired from ECI after 23 years of service.  Also in 2010, he joined the Eastgate F & AM Masonic Lodge #65 where he was an active  Marshall.

Charles “Buddy” Hutt was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. Charles’ giftedness led him to become a member of the Male Choir.  His favorite chapter in the Bible was Psalms 118 and his favorite songs were “Worth” and “One Day at A Time Sweet Jesus”. God thought Charles was worth saving, so he came and changed his life. So Charles could be free and he could be whole.  God showed him the stairway that he had to climb this is all Charles was asking of God. Give him the strength to do every day what he was assigned one day at a time.

Hutt was actively engaged in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He frequently attended their athletic events and school activities.  He was a volunteer coach at Washington High School for many years and coached Little League baseball and football.

Charles received the Parent Involvement Matters Award (PIMA) for the 2014-2015 school year from Princess Anne Elementary School.

He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Hutt; two sons, Milton Collins Jr. and Charles Hutt Jr. (Mirza); three daughters, Monfredia Bailey (Jerry Sr.), Clarissa Redding and Monica Hutt (Daron); 12 grandchildren, Darrin, Janae’, Tierra,  Jerry Jr.,  Talaia, Frederick, Dionte’, Shacora, Jamira, Jaeliana, Da’Mariya, and Jae’Mir; 11 great grandchildren, Amaya, Janiya, Di’Anya, Makenzie, Jordan, Marcus, Jaevin, Noah, Dionne, Gabriella, and Emani; two brothers, Alfred Hutt (Olivia) and Bishop A.
