Sherrylee Victoria Wharton

Sherry

Sherrylee Victoria Wharton, the beloved daughter of Jonathan (Jack) and Sarah Sedonia Wharton was born on March 15, 1958, and on June 9, 2016, it was God’s divine plan to call her home and end her earthly journey.

Sherrylee, affectionately called “Fluffy” by her close friends, attended the Public School System of Somerset County and was a graduate of Crisfield High School Class of 1977 and a Crisfield “Crabber” Cheerleader. After graduation she began her young employment at Billy C’s Seafood Company and later was employed at the Tawes Nursing Home in the Dietary Department and as a CNA. Sherrylee was also an employee of Sherwin Williams (Rubberset), where she gained the affection of many coworkers. Her true calling came in later years as a Food Service Worker at various restaurants. She will be remembered most of all to the McDonalds patrons who would ask for her beautiful smiling face and wait for her famous greeting, “Good Morning Sweetie.”

Sherrylee was a very friendly person. Her tiny presence could lighten up any room. You could hear her voice before you saw her and you could spot her a mile away by her signature “blonde” hair. Everyone loved to be around Sherry. Her love of life, thrill seeking, life of the party personality was adored by all. She was playful, fun loving and had an incredible sense of humor. Her smile was simply amazing. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Shiloh Church was the foundation of Sherrylee’s spirituality. She attended Shiloh throughout her childhood and into adulthood. She was on the choir and accepted Christ at a young age. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 51.

Sherrylee will be cherished by her devoted son, Matthew Hammock of Fruitland, MD, and will always be in the hearts of her two loving sisters, Joyce (Garry) Taylor of Salisbury, MD, and Valerie Sutton (Angelo) of Princess Anne, MD; four adoring nieces, Shawna, Ebony, Britny and Jodi; three nephews, Ryan, Jonathan and Joe’l; she will be missed by her childhood and lifelong friends, Bonnie Campbell-Whittington and Janice Gerald-Garcia. Two very supportive friends, Yolanda and Theresa, and one very special friend and confidant, Miss Viola Allen along with a host of cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

Sherrylee was preceded in death by her parents, Jonathan and Sedonia Wharton; one son, Gavin Orlando Ames; one sister, Dena Maddox and her grandson, Marcus Hammock.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM Saturday, June 18, 2016 at The Woodrow Wilson Community Center in Crisfield.
