Morris T. Doane, 88, of Westover departed this life, Monday, July 4, 2016 at Aurora Senior Living of Manokin in Princess Anne, Maryland. Born August 19, 1927, he was the son of the late John T. and Gertrude Miles-Doane.
Morris was educated in the Somerset County Public Schools. He served briefly in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was employed with the Maryland State Highway Administration for over forty years. He also farmed the family land for many years, raising various crops and animals and sharing the bounty with family and friends.
Morris, a life-long member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and gave support to the church whenever he was called upon.
He leaves to cherish his memory with: one sister, Emma Shreeves (Otha); one devoted niece, Elizabeth Holden, one devoted great niece, Sharon Holden; a very special friend, Darlene Dennis, who was like a daughter and her children who were like grandchildren; several nephews, other nieces, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Hewitt, Joseph, John and Milton Doane; five sisters, Marie Smith, Maggie Hitch, Virginia Doane, Lillian Bogan and Gladys Collier.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, July 9, 2016 at John Wesley United Methodist Church (Cottage Grove) in Westover, MD. With a viewing one hour prior.
Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery.
