Shirley Elsie Dennis (Duffy) was born in Princess Anne, Maryland, to Scott and Cecelia Dennis on December 19, 1935. She departed this life on March 12, 2018 after a short hospitalization.
Shirley, better known as “Baby Dumplings” and “Dump”, grew up in the Greenwood section of Princess Anne, attended school there and graduated from Greenwood School in 1953. During her time in school she played both basketball and softball. She could be found on the softball field with her children or playing ball during family reunions. She remained a big sports fan and faithfully watched games until her passing.
Shirley retired from Perdue Inc. in 1998 after 29 years of service. She previously worked for Swift Foods. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and word searches. She loved telling stories and jokes and brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew her. She made many friends during her daily pursuits. Dump was known for her independent spirit and outspoken ways. She did it her way right until the end of her life.
Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was satisfied to have them in her home. She treasured the loudness and laughter of a full house.
Shirley leaves to mourn her daughter Dorothea Duffy Fuller (Andrew) of Columbia, Md., sons, Rory Duffy (Cheryl) of Pocomoke, Kevin Duffy (Johanna) of Princess Anne, Darryl Duffy Sr. (Carol) of Salisbury. Her son Brian Duffy preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn the following grandchildren, Janelle Duffy, Julia Fuller, Darryl Duffy Jr., Leslie Duffy, Kevin S. Duffy Jr., Devin Palmer, Daron Handy, Travis Duffy, Kevin N. Duffy, Yvonne Duffy and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Sylvia Smith and Janice Fields. Her only brother, Raymond Tilghman preceded her in death. The family of nieces, nephews and cousins share in this loss along with many friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Princess Anne, with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will also be held 2:00 – 6:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2018 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Interment will be at John Wesley (Bowland Hill) Cemetery in Princess Anne.

To the family.. I am sorry to learn of Ms. Shirley’s passing… I knew her because of my mother and I must say she was an awesome woman. Now she and my mother are enjoying heaven together catching up on old times and watching over us
