Hurley Mitchell A. Smith was born on March 21, 1954 and departed this life Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at The Lake in Salisbury, Maryland at the age of 64. He was the son of the late William Smith and Elsie Savage Smith of Westover, Maryland.
Hurley was educated in the Somerset County Public Schools and graduated from the Old Washington High School in Princess Anne, Maryland in 1972. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for four years and was honorably discharged.
After his discharge for the Army, he was employed at Dresser Wayne in Salisbury, Maryland until the company closed. He later went to work as a maintenance person for the Princess Anne Townhouses and the Princess Anne Apartment Complexes.
On April 25, 2009, he married Monica Ballard. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Hurley was very Jovial, friendly, outgoing and could always make you laugh and was always ready to lend a helping hand. In his leisure time he loved to watch westerns, soap operas and playing cards. His favorite pastime was spending it with family and friends.
As well as his wife, Monica; he leaves to cherish his memories with: one daughter, Kimberly Smith of Pocomoke City, MD; two grandchildren, Keontae Smith and Dereon Hankerson; two sisters, Corrine Tull of Salisbury, MD and Christine Smith of Westover; one stepsister, Annie Mae Brittingham (Melvin) of Salisbury; two sisters-in-law, Tammy White (Larry) and Catherine Smith, both of Princess Anne; one special nephew and two special nieces, Daryl Smith, Danielle White, who always called her Hurley “Uncle Buddy” and Lisa White (Elrich) and a host of special friends and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Hurley was preceded in death by his siblings, Samuel, William, Jr., Leon, Ralph and Elwood Smith.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2018 at John Wesley United Methodist Church (Cottage Grove) in Westover, with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will also be held 2:00 – 6:00 PM Friday, September 7, 2018 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

My deepest condolences to you in the loss of your loved one. He will be deeply missed. At times like this we truly need the comfort that only Almighty God can give.
