Shirley Mae Stevenson Cottman, a longtime resident of Princess Anne, Maryland, departed this earthly life on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland at the age of eighty (80). She was born on Thursday, September 22, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Charles Ballard and Catherine Stevenson.
Shirley Mae received her formal education in the public schools of Somerset County. She worked various jobs throughout the years but retired from Manokin Manor, now known as Aurora Nursing Home, in Princess Anne, Maryland in 2006.
She loved to cook for her family and spend time in their presence. Shirley Mae was fun-loving, kind and generous. She loved life and loved having fun, especially when it came to playing cards and Bingo.
Precious memories of Shirley Mae’s life will be cherished by: her only child, Donald Armwood (Patrice) of Princess Anne, Maryland; two grandchildren, Shareena and Troy Ballard, both of Princess Anne, Maryland; two sisters, Bernice Collins of Princess Anne, Maryland and Thelma Kersey (Ernest) of Marion, Maryland; four brothers, Johnnie and Sherman Ballard, both of Princess Anne, Maryland, Sherwood Ballard (Cheryl) of Salisbury, Maryland and Leroy Tommy Ballard (Eula) of Delmar, Maryland; devoted friends, Lazette Young and Blanche Jones; several great grandchildren; a special friend, Sylvester Wallace and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Shirley Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Lee Cottman and one brother, Irving Ballard, Sr.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Princess Anne with a viewing one hour prior. A viewing will also be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2019 at the church.
