Nelson “Bunk” Handy, 57, of Norfolk, VA, formerly of Crisfield, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk , VA. Born July 16, 1963, he was the son of Edna Corbin-Merrill and the late Nelson W. Handy.
“Bunk” is survived by three sons, DeAngelo Handy, Nelson Handy and Kedrich Whittaker; one daughter, Nelsonya Handy; two goddaughters, Chynna and Shamirah Courthers; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne Blake, Joseph Handy, Cornelius “Mack” Merrill and Darryl “Tony” Merrill, Sr.; four sisters, Brenda Blake, Joan Collins (Alphonso), Helen Fontaine and Michelle Handy; a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD with a viewing one hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
Interment will be at Liberia Cemetery in Marion Station, MD.

Our prayer is that God will comfort you as you remember the good times and laughter you shared with Bunk. The Word of God reminds us all that weeping may endure thru the night, but joy comes in the morning. Please don’t shy away from the pain that comes with such a great loss, just know that you’re not alone. Even Jesus was touched by the pain of loss (John 11 account of Lazarus’s death). So, please know that he cares that you’re hurting. He even sent The Comforter to comfort you as you go through your grieving process. I want everyone know that bunk was my main man and best friend. Bunk and I grew up on chesapeake. Him and I did a lot together. I’m going to miss my him,and will see him again.Be strong and live your best life for Bunk. Be blessed mom Edna.
