Dolly Lou Burgess also known as “Monk”, 77 of Marion Station, Maryland went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional with her granddaughter Markeia Simmons by her side. She was born on May 11, 1945, in Lake City, South Carolina to the late Johnny Burgess and Louise Hannah-Burgess.
Dolly received her education in Somerset County Public Schools. She worked several jobs to provide for her children. She grew up working in the fields, at Carval Hall in Crisfield, MD, at Campbell Soup in Pocomoke, MD, Econo Lodge in Princess Anne, MD, University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD and The Crab Place in Crisfield, MD.
Some of her favorite past times included: talking daily with friends and family members, Shellie Mathies who she would talk to several times a day and they would sing church hymns and talk about the goodness of the Lord, Delores Evans, and Hazel Cropper, who she considered to be part of the family. She would also call her sister Clara and they would sing her favorite hymn “I Won’t Complain.” She enjoyed running the Crab & Cruises at The Crab Place where she was the Life of the Party. She had an infectious smile; she loved to dance and was known by many as “Miss Sweet 16.” Dolly loved planting flowers, cooking family dinners and playing games on her tablet. During various church functions you would always see Dolly in the kitchen. She enjoyed spending time with her family and eating ice cream.
Precious memories will be cherished: by her four children, Vickie Burgess, Pinetta Maddox (Elton), Maurice Burgess, Sr. (Tynisha), all of Marion Station, MD, and Angela Brittingham (Troy, Sr.) of Westover, MD; three sisters,
Clara Johnson (Rufus) of Marion Station, MD, Mary Burgess-Gregg (Frankie) of Silver Spring, MD, Geneva Hanna of Lake City, SC; two brothers, Joseph Burgess, Sr. of Marion Station, MD, Enoch Burgess (April) of Rocky Mount, NC; 9 grandchildren; Bradley Douglas, Jr. (B.J.), Troy Brittingham, Jr. (T.J.), Brandon Douglas, Markeia Simmons, Jerresha Hodge, Mauriah Burgess, DeAuvione Brittingham, Maurice Burgess, Jr. (Man Man) and Trenton Brittingham; 9 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives; special friends Delores Evans, Dorothy Rolley, Shellie Mathies, Hazel Cropper, Charlotte Scott, Allena Bagwell and Anne Taylor.
Dolly was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Burgess; father, Johnny Burgess; her brothers, Billy Burgess, and Charles Burgess.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday August 11, 2022 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Marion Station , MD with a viewing one hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2- 6 pm Wednesday August 10, 2022 at Anthony E Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD.
Interment will be in the Church Cemetery

I will never forget Ms.Dolly she has been right by my side when i lost my dad she was right in the vehicle with me,and how she watched over my mom until i moved her in with me and always got the mail for me.She was a very good neighbor. Take your rest my dear.😢😢

God gave me the honor and privilege to meet such a special lady in Ms. Dolly. I loved her dearly. We had many good talks about the Lord and many prayers. She has a special place in my heart and I will sorely miss her. To say she was a unique one of a kind and very special lady would be an understatement of just how special she was. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Ms. Dolly is now totally whole and free from sickness and disease. She is rejoicing now with her Savior along with her parents and siblings that went on before her.

To the Burgess Family, I’m sadden of the loss of Mrs Dolly. Mrs. Dolly was very close to her friends and family as well to everyone that knew and love her so much.
