Mary Catherine Hitch

In sweet peace, our beloved, Mary Catherine Polk Hitch, transitioned to eternal rest, Saturday, November 5, 2022. She was born December 15, 1947, in Washington, DC. Mary was the daughter of the late Earl J. Polk, Sr. and Lorraine White Polk.

Mary was accomplished and educated in the District of Columbia public schools. She received her Master of Law Degree from the University of District Columbia. Mary was a retired Senior Policy Advisor with the Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, MD.

Always gracious and welcoming, Mary had a bigger-than-life personality.  She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, and was a staunch proponent of education. We do not mourn her passing; we celebrate the ‘ray of sunshine’ she left for all to remember.

A life well lived and loved. Mary was well read and informed. She was candied and gave sound advice. Spending time with her family was important. Education was key. She encouraged her family to seek education and to become productive citizens. Mary was a member of The Daughters of Crisfield Pride Elks Lodge, # 194.

Her journey on earth is complete. She has reunited with her parents and sister, Dianne E. Polk, where all is well, and the woes of the world are no more.

We will forever remember and cherish the life of our dear Mary. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Hitch; son, Reginald E. Guy; grandchildren, Chantell (Sheldon) Wright, Jennifer (Johnathan) Thomas, Alexus Guy, Reginald (Tatyana) Guy, and Rahman Guy; great grandchildren,  Caleb Wright, Nicholas Wright, Johnathan Thomas II, and Rahsaan Williams; sister, Ramona J. Polk; brothers, Omar J. White, Earl J. (Mary) Polk, Jr., and David C. (June) Polk; aunts, Sarah C. Robinson, Shirley A. Gaskins, and Jenny (Percy) Chase; uncle, David (Joyce Ann) Polk Sr.; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 30683 Hampden Avenue, Princess Anne, MD with a viewing one hour prior. A Viewing will also be held 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2022 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Maryland,  where ceremonial rites will be preformed by The Daughters of Crisfield Pride Elks Lodge #194 at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at Saint Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Princess Anne, Maryland.

“Though absent from the body, our beloved will live in our hearts forever. We will meet again in that Great Getting Up Morning.”
