Josephine Smith, 70, of Princess Anne, MD, transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Tidal Health Medical Center. Born May 11, 1953, in Princess Anne, MD. She was the daughter of the late May Etta Cannon Hutt and Albert Cottman, Sr.
Josephine received her education in the Somerset County Public Schools System.
She worked at Green Giant and the Candy Factory. She was the Family and Neighborhood babysitter. She loved to bake cakes and make sweet potato pies. She loved sitting on her porch (Stoop) that was the place to be for the most part. She loved playing spades and watching game shows and westerns with her son “Porge”.
Family that is left to cherish her memories; her daughter, Mary Smith; grandson, Jayafus Kelly; granddaughter, Jada Kelly, all of Eden, MD; two sisters, Arlene Cottman and Lillie Beckett, both of Princess Anne, MD; one brother, Emerson Cottman (Gloria) of Princess Anne; one sister-in-law, Ola Milligan of Princess Anne; one brother-in-law, Tony Smith (Ebony) of Salisbury, MD; one step-sister, Marilyn Parson of Fruitland, MD; one nephew, Ronald Cottman (Wykena); one niece, Tamika Jones.
She was preceded in death by her son; James F. Smith, III; her mother, Mary Etta Cannon Hutt; her father, Albert Cottman, Sr.; aunt, Naomi Morris (Robert); two brothers, Albert Cottman and Oscar Cottman; uncles, Oscar Cannon (Ollie), Sherman Sherwood Cannon and Roger Cannon; nephews, Thomas Beckett, and Michael Dennis; a special friend, William Purnell and one Sister-in-law, Michelle Hunter.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Church 11656 Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne with a viewing one hour prior. A viewing will also be held 2:00 PM-4:00 PM Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
