Patricia Louise Lenoir, 87, of Princess Anne, MD passed away peacefully in her home, January 25, 2024. Affectionately known as Patsy, she was born April 1, 1936, to Eben “Freeman” Jones and Essie “Louise” Jones who preceded her in death.
Patsy graduated from Greenwood High School in Somerset County and spent some time in college studying physical education. Her early adulthood included residing in Philadelphia and later, Ohio before returning home to care for her mother. Patsy was a hard worker and enjoyed helping people. She worked for Wicomico Nursing Home, Somerset County Schools as a substitute teacher, Sealy Manufacturing, and following retirement, went on to be a foster grandmother with the Head Start program in Eden, Md.
Patsy had a passion for cooking and baking. The joy it brought her was evident in her labor and her smile. It was not uncommon to receive requests for her greens, her mouth-watering ribs, and last but not least, famous punch bowl cake. Even in her 80’s she continued to cook and prepare meals for loved ones. If she knew you were coming for a visit, rest assured, a roast would be in the oven. Patsy loved fashion, too. She enjoyed shopping and would travel just about anywhere to curate the perfect outfit.
One of seven children, Patsy was raised in a tight-knit family. She had a strong support system and even stronger faith. Baptized as Christian early in life, Patsy knew the love of God and always depended on it. She was a long-time member of the old Mt. Zion Memorial Church on Polks Road. She was a committed member of the “Busy Bees”, through which she demonstrated the love of Christ through acts of service. Patsy was a current member of New Psalmist Non-denominational Church in Westover, MD under the leadership of Glendon A. Jones, Jr. Pastor Jones and several congregates remained in contact with beloved Patsy when health challenges prevented her from consistent attendance.
Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Patsy leaves a cherished legacy in her devoted and loving children: Patrice Cornish, Ivan (Casandra) Barkley, Sr. and Von (Lisa) Lenoir, Patrick Barkley (preceded in death); Her grandchildren: Thomas Brown, Damian (Bianca) Stevenson, Ivan (Elise) Barkley II, Irvin (Bethany) Barkley, Isaac Barkley, Isiah (Amber) Barkley, Monet Lenoir, Brandee Lenoir and Perry Lenoir. Patsy also leaves two dedicated brothers: Earl Jones and Journal (Barbara) Jones; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. We would be remised if we did not express Patsy’s adoration and appreciation for her faithful granddaughter, JeNelle “Nellie Bell” Brown (preceded in death). Patsy adored her special niece Phyllis Thomas and appreciated her constant visits and help. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends whom she loved so very much.
Patsy valued and appreciated your presence in her life, she loved visits, phone calls and cards from family and friends. We will all miss her greatly but will honor her by always sharing our memories of the special woman she was to us.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 10, 2024 at New Psalmist Non Denominational Church, 8925 Old Princess Anne Road, Westover, Maryland with a viewing one hour prior. A public viewing will also be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, February 9, 2024 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
Interment will be at the Church Cemetery.
