Brewster Lemont Ward, Sr., 73, made his heavenly transition on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Born August 30, 1950, in Marion Station, MD, he was the son of the late Rev. Walter B. Ward, Sr. and Alma Ward.
Brewster graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School in Crisfield, MD in 1969. Brewster was known for his athleticism in basketball and other sports during his high school years. He also spoke highly of his participation at the Upward Bound Program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore during his time in high school.
Brewster attended Lear Seigler Computer School from 1969-1970 and Cheyney University for three years from 1972-1975. After attending college, Brewster went on to work at Provident National Bank, Online Banking Services, Westinghouse and The Boeing Company. While working at Boeing, Brewster held roles as a database analyst and computer specialist. He worked at Boeing from 1982 to 2001 and retired after 19 years of service. Brewster started his own technical recruiting company, and other business ventures, which he continued after his retirement.
Brewster was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia 76ers play. He enjoyed gathering with his classmates from the Crisfield-Woodson Alumni Association. Brewster was passionate about the importance of higher education.
Brewster was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Walter B. Ward, Sr. and Alma Ward; a brother, Walter B. Ward, Jr.; and five sisters, Gilda Spearman, Loetta Wilkins, Alma Christine Lewis, Doris Sterling and Darlene Ward.
Brewster is survived by three children, Lisa Battle Thomas of Salisbury, MD, Brewster Ward, Jr. (LaShawn) of Landenberg, PA and Derek Ward (Samantha) of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Brewster Ward, III, Christian Thomas, Tylar Ward, Destiny Thomas, Michael Thomas and Angelina Thomas; four brothers, Bernard Ward, Sr. (Valerie), Austin “Rick” Ward (Angel), Delontae Ward (Deborah) and Michael Ward (Monica) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 15, 2024, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 27945 Holland Crossing Road, Marion Station, Maryland, with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, June 14, 2024, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Maryland.
Interment will be at the Church Cemetery.
