Dorothy Bell-Hutt

Our beloved, Dorothy Ann Bell-Hutt, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life Thursday, September 26, 2024, peacefully at home as her earthly journey ended. Born April 24,1950 in Marion Station, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert Bell, Sr., and Viola Ruby Jackson Bell and the second oldest of eight children.

Dot as she was affectionately called was educated in the Somerset County Public School System. She was the Miss Woodson of the class of 1968. She furthered her education by attending Wor-Wic Technical Community College and the Eastern Shore State School of Nursing in Cambridge, MD receiving her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1976. Before retiring, she spent 40 years working for the State of Maryland in various capacities as an LPN. After years of services to helping the sick and the lame she turned her attention to helping children at “It Takes a Village to Help Our Children” (ITAV) in Crisfield, MD.

Dot gave her life to Christ at an early age and lived according to God’s word. Handy UMC provided the spiritual foundation for which she believed. She was the Marion UMC (formerly Handy UMC) Lay Leader, a member of the choir and kitchen committee. She always had a smile and a positive word of cheer through a scripture and a prayer. Through all that she had encountered Dot never lost faith in the healing power of God. Her faith was unshakable.

Dot loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed siting at the dock in Crisfield to witness the beauty in God’s creation. She was the glue that held the family together whether it was by a delicious meal or comforting words of wisdom.

Dot met and married the man of her life, Preston Alfred Hutt, Sr. Their lives were enriched by the birth and raising of two sons: Preston A. Hutt, Jr. and Phillip A Hutt, Sr.

Dot always thought and frequently expressed that she was born to help others. If you needed a helping hand, Dot was there. If you needed advice on the ache in your back or a pain in your foot, Dot was there. If you wanted a home cooked meal, Dot was there. If you needed a word of prayer, Dot was there. To have known her, was to love her.

Dot is survived by her two sons; Preston Hutt, Jr. (Sheila) and Phillip Hutt, Sr.; six grandchildren, Phillip Hutt, Jr., Andre Hutt, Cranston Hutt, Amarie Hutt, Pradeep Preston Hutt, and Ace DeJarnette; two sisters, Doreen Bell and Darlene Perrault; three brothers, Rev. Charles Albert Bell, Jr. (Catherine), Robert Bell, and Donald Bell (Angela); two sisters-in law, Joyce Bell and Linda Bishop; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Andraya Martina Hutt; her brothers, Percy Joseph Bell, and Rev. Ronald Bell, Sr.; and a sister-in-law Deborah Bell.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 PM Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Handy United Methodist Church, 5630 Tulls Corner Road, Marion Station, MD.

The Funeral Service will follow.

  4. To the Bell-Hutt family. You all have my deepest condolences during this time of grief. I’ve known Mrs. Dorothy since I was a little girl. She was a very quiet person with a huge loving spirit. It saddens me to hear of her passing. God doesn’t make any mistakes. Her earthly job is done, now it’s time to gain her reward by sitting at the right hand of our Heavenly Father. She will be missed by all who has had the pleasure of knowing her. R.I.P Mrs. Dorothy 🙏🏽

  5. I meet Dot around 25 years ago. I had the pleasure of sitting in her kitchen that had the most delicious spread of food. I never knew that zucchini bread could taste so delicious. She not only could cook you under the table but she could sit with you and make you feel like you are the most important person. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word. Never heard her speak ill of anyone. I will miss Dot so much. Thank you Dot for excepting me into your family, I will always be grateful. R.I.P. Love Jeanne

She always had a beautiful smile on her face she didn’t let others bring her down, if you came in to work with a frown you would surely go home with a smile on your face. I will miss her dish of greens I’m sorry I never asked her for her recipe cause they were some good tasting greens.
