Jennie Chase

Jennie Catherine Chase, 82, of Princess Anne, MD was born March 17, 1942, and gained her heavenly wings Saturday, October 12, 2024, at her home.  She was the youngest daughter of sixteen children born to the late Raymond, Sr. and Hettie B. Polk.

Jennie received her formal education in the Somerset County Public School system.  She graduated in the Class of 1960 from Somerset Junior/Senior High School in Princess Anne, MD. Upon graduation, she attended Bowie State College before relocating to New Jersey.

She was employed at Kimbel Glass Company in Vineland, NJ and retired after 20 years of service.  Once relocating back to Maryland, she began substituting at Washington High School and it was the joy of her life working with the students.

Jennie was baptized at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church as a young child and was a faithful member until she relocated to New Jersey.  While in New Jersey she was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Woodstown, NJ where you could find her playing the piano.  After returning back to MD she attended St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church.  After COVID, she changed her membership to Macedonia St. Charles Charge under the leadership Rev. Deangelo Johnson.

Jennie leaves to cherish loving memories with her husband of 43 years, Percy E. Chase, Sr. She had no biological sons but, four bonus children; Alphonza Chase (Elaine) of Waldorf, MD, Elroy Chase (Tawanda) of Dumfries, VA, Percy E. Chase, Jr. (Valerie) of Paulsboro, NJ, and Benard Jackson (Stacey) of Washington Township, NJ; two special men that she raised, loved and adored, Kenon Street (Arab) of Fort Myers, FL and Michael Ware of Princess Anne, MD; one brother, David Polk, Sr. (Joyce Ann) of Princess Anne, MD; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Polk of Salisbury, MD and Lizzie Lee Martin of Richmond, VA.; one brother-in-law, Thomas Martin of Alabama; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her 14 siblings, Raymond Polk, Jr., Walter Polk, Earl Polk, Ephriam Polk, Clifton Polk, Glenmore Cannon, Charles Polk, Irving Polk, Sr., Bessie Ballard, Lucille Jones, Beatrice Polk, Bernice Stevenson, Ida Polk. Lottie Moses and Rita Polk.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 30683 Hampden Avenue, Princess Anne, Maryland with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, October 25, 2024, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.

Interment will follow at John Wesley (Bowland Hill) Cemetery in Princess Anne.

  1. Oh My God I Am So Very Sorry to Hear About Jennie. My Lord I’m Praying for The Family and I Was Just with Her 2 Saturday’s ago At The Prayer Breakfast and I Was Getting All of Her Food and Drinks for her. She said That She Loved Me But she said Your Twin Sister was My Girl. She said I’ll Never Forget Shelia Ballard’s Funeral and Then she told me that she had not been Eating and I said Ms. Jennie you gotta Eat to get Stronger. So later I asked if she needed A Ride Home and she said thanks but I got somebody waiting for me. Here today gone today. I’m Praying for The Entire Family and Mr. Percy.
