To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the Heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
“A time to be born and a time to die”
Leona was born on December 28, 1962 to Cleo E. Horsey and the late Jesse L. Horsey, Sr. She transitioned to her eternal rest on December 29, 2024.
“A time to live”
She was educated in the Somerset County Maryland school system and graduated from Washington High School in 1981. At the age of 14, Leona sang with the group called “Ecstasy” accompanied by the Brothers James Band. They performed at local events such as weddings, birthday celebrations, and church services. She enjoyed being a health care worker and was employed by Bay Shore Services at the time of her death.
Leona grew up in Mount Hope singing with “The Echoes” under the directorship of the late Maize Handy; then the “Youth Choir” under the direction of Bishop Weldon Johnson; and then the “M.C. Ardrey Singers”. She was a member of Mt. Hope at the time of her passing.
Leona completed two of the items on her bucket list which were her first plane ride to Missouri and a cruise to the Caribbean.
“A time to love”
On December 28, 1996, Leona was joined in marriage to the late Robert “Bobby” Cropper, Sr. From this union two daughters were born. Leona was a very outgoing and loving person. She enjoyed life and was not short on friends, young and old. She enjoyed making people laugh. To know her was to love her. She will be greatly missed.
“A time to mourn”
Precious memories of her life will be cherished by: two daughters, Tuesdae Cropper of Princess Anne, MD and Bobbi “Joy” Cropper of Salisbury, MD; her mother, Cleo Horsey of Princess Anne; one sister, Anita Wallace (Kevin) of Waldorf, MD; one brother, Anthony Faulkner of Pleasantville, NJ; three stepsons, Robert Cropper, Jr., David Cropper and Donte Kellam, all of Salisbury; two special aunts, Shirley Tilghman and Joyce (Omar) Cottman all of Princess Anne; two uncles, Rodney Hayman, Sr. (Donzell) of Princess Anne and Jerry Hayman of Salisbury; a special sister/cousin pact, Patricia James, Norma McCandless and Lisa Tilghman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceding Leona in death, her father, Jesse L. Horsey, Sr.; husband, Robert Cropper, Sr.; two brothers, Jesse Horsey, Jr. and Vernon Hayman.

My condolences mama, Mrs. Cleo I was sad when I found out about my friend passing. We use to meet and talk when we played the lottery at cheers or get our gas at Exxon. I will surely miss, Leona.
My prayers are with the family. I knew her through work at Bayshore.
This feels surreal. The last few years you’ve had the chance to enjoy life with your first plane ride, first cruise and having a good time being with your sister cousins/friends. Staying up until 3 am to talk on the ship. The fun we had on the Crab & Cruise for our 40th Class get-together; we laughed all night and were planning to do it again. Wearing matching t-shirts. You were so grateful for your family, your girls, your church and friendships. You ran into so many people over the last year that you hadn’t seen in decades. It was all meant to be. You were so looking forward to having grandchildren one day, but we now realize that will not happen. Sending prayers of comfort to your dear mom, siblings, daughters and extended family and friends. We will celebrate the good times we had with the wonderful memories we embrace.
Sending condolences and prayers to the family 🙏

Sending my condolences and payers to Leona’s family. I’ve been singing Roberta Flack’s ‘Killing Me Softly’ since I heard of Leona’s passing. I can still hear Leona singing that second verse..I felt all flushed with fever….Her voice was sooo beautiful . We had the best time singing in the band together. I’ll also never forget our class song that Leona wrote, Nothing Comes to Sleepers but a Dream! Leona wrote as such a beautiful, talented, kind person. Rest in peace my dear friend and classmate.
