Equilla Pearl Stokely, 75, of Marion Station, MD made her heavenly transition on Monday, March 17, 2025, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, MD. Born December 7, 1949, she was the youngest daughter of the late Evelyn Doanes, and Roscoe Styles; Raymond Doanes (stepfather).
“Quill”, is the name all of her family and friends affectionally called her. However, all of her grandchildren lovingly called her “Nanny.” Quill was a loving and caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Her laughter and sense of humor was like a medicine to our souls. She absolutely delighted in cooking for church and family gatherings. Her bread pudding, macaroni salad and peas and dumplings will surely be missed!
Quill entered holy matrimony with Harold on April 15, 1978. They raised three children, and they exemplified a life of love, laughter and happiness within their home. She often conversed about how grateful and blessed she was to have a husband who cooked for the household every night. Quill and Harold renewed their vows on April 15, 1997, in the presence of several family and friends.
Quill joined Highway Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Dorothy Holden in the mid 1980’s. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. Quill then served on the Missionary Board, the Mother Board, and was a member of the Highway Holiness Church Choir. Additionally, Quill was a Powerful, Energetic and Dynamic -Worship Leader! She enjoyed praising the Lord by singing, dancing and shouting!
She was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly of Churches of Jesus Christ, Inc. and traveled with the United District Councils. She and her Highway Holiness Church family traveled to Texas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Havre de Grace, MD, St. Michaels, MD and Elkton, MD, to lift Jesus Christ.
Quill went back to school and earned her GED and became an advocate for the Adult Education Program in Somerset County. Quill was employed at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in the dietary department during 1990’s, and in the early 2000’s she worked at UMES as a Security Officer. Quill’s last place of employment was for the Mac Center in Somerset County. She worked as a Senior Center Aide and a Meals-on-Wheels driver. In Quill’s opinion, this was the most meaningful job because she felt that she was making a positive impact within her community.
Quill’s life was a wonderful and beautiful journey which touched many. Her legacy will continue to resonate for many generations. She personified faith, love, triumph, compassion and inspiration. Her enthusiasm for life, her smile, and her laughter was extremely contagious! She was an organ donor. Therefore, she is continuously helping others. Quill’s story is truly an unwavering light.
Those left to cherish her fond memories are; her husband, Harold Stokley; two Daughters, Margaret Brown, and Rhianna Wynter (Eric); one son, Harold Caesar Styles (Samantha); 11 grandchildren, Terrel Steward, Zhanna Brown, Rhaeyonna Harmon, Rhaeyleah Stokely, RhaeyNiya Justice, Breasia Styles, Caeasia Styles, Demareyon Styles, Alyzabeth Styles, Zaeden Styles, and Tru Kane; four Great-Grandchildren, Zacari Brown-Milbourne, Rha’kell Stokely, Rhayne Gardner, and Delilah Teagle; a very special niece, whom she treated like her daughter, Jometta Johnson (Roger); one goddaughter, Skylette Jackson; two sisters, Mable Finney (Hinson) and Marcella Styles; one brother, Javan Styles (Delores); several nieces and nephews “who loved her to pieces;” a host of sisters-in-law , brothers-in-law, cousins and friends.
Equilla was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Doanes; her father, Roscoe Styles; her stepfather, Raymond Doanes; five brothers, two sisters; one niece and three nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Highway Holiness Church, 27127 Old State Road, Crisfield (Hopewell), MD with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2025, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
Interment will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Eastern Shore Veteran’s Cemetery, Hurlock, Maryland.

Prayers to the immediate family of Cousin Equilla. I’m reminded of a song that says…”Eternal Life, Eternal Life! That Is What I’m Working For, Eternal Life”.
The journey down here is only the beginning for a saint of the most high God JESUS.
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first”. 1 Thessalonians 4:16
This is our blessed HOPE.

To the family of Equilla, ( Harold and children and other siblings) during this time of saddness Iam praying for your strength and comfort. Quill was a friend to the Bivens family indeed and to all whom she came into contact with. Your grief is also our grief but know we can find comfort and encouragement in the power of the Almighty God, the one that she worshipped , served and gave praise to. Remember the words of the Hebrew writer chapter 13:5, For He hath saith, I will never leave thee, nor forsake the.
