Christopher Elmer Cottman

Christopher Elmer Cottman, of Tyaskin, Maryland departed this life on Saturday December 27, 2025, at 87 years old. He was born on June 27, 1938, in Marumsco, Maryland to the late Oscar Cottman, Sr and Frances Jackson Cottman.

Christopher was educated in the Somerset County Public Schools until 8th grade and left to obtain various jobs to help support their family. As a child he grew up in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Marumsco. Later as an older adult he and his wife, Joanne, became members of the Cathedral of Love Church in Salisbury, Maryland where he was head of the Trustee Board for several years. He was also a faithful usher, assisted with the food bank, and was active in the Men’s Ministry until his health began to decline.

Christopher worked at various jobs throughout the years but retired from Nanticoke Seafood where he was employed for 40 years. Even after retirement he continued to work odd jobs to stay busy.

Dad loved to watch old western movies, anything with John Wayne in it. He also loved reading the Bible and listening to Gospel music.

Lasting memories will linger in the hearts of his wife, Joanne Horsey Cottman; his children, Crystal Cottman Stevenson (Thomas), Angel Cottman Braxton, Tyzanna Cottman, and Cassius Cottman; his stepchildren, Tracy Mitchell, Gayle Price, Franklin Johnson, and Leon Johnson; grandchildren; nieces; nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Faneea Cottman, eight brothers, Roger, Wilbur, Hartford, Edward, Greenie, Oscar, John, and William; three sisters, Thelma Alexander, Mary Ann Walker, and Georgia Evans.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Cathedral Of Love Church Ministries, 423 East Church Street,  Salisbury, Maryland with a viewing one hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Friday, January 9, 2026 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Maryland.

Interment will follow at Ebenezer U.M.C. Cemetery in Marion Station, Maryland.
