Rita Elizabeth Polk was born on October 26, 1938 in Princess Anne,Maryland to the late Raymond and Hettie Polk. Rita departed this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
“Rita” as she was affectionately known by family and friends was educated in the Somerset County Public School System. She was employed at Sammie’s Soul Food on Lake Street in Salisbury, Maryland for 25+ years as a cook. She was known for feeding any and everybody that she came in contact with.
Rita was an affectionate and loving person who always kept the family laughing. One thing for certain, two things for sure she would set you straight under no uncertain terms. She enjoyed all types of gospel singing.
Rita leaves to cherish fond memories one daughter, Alverta Polk of Princess Anne, Maryland, one grandson; Donte’ Bivens of Forestville,Maryland, three sisters, Lucille Jones, Lottie Moses and Jennie Chase(Percy); one brother, David Polk (Joyce) all of Princess Anne; one sister-inlaw, Cynthia Polk and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives andfriends. She had a very special young man in her life that she loved as a grandson, Rashad Christopher.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by twelve siblings, Raymond Polk, Jr., Walter Polk, Earl Polk, Ephriam Polk, Clifton Polk, Glenmore Cannon, Charles Polk, Irving Polk, Sr., Bessie Ballard, Beatrice Polk, Bernice Stevenson and Ida Polk.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday April 6, 2015 at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Princess Anne, where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor David A. Miles will be the Eulogist. A viewing will also be held 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
