Eleanor Maude Wright, 89, departed this life on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Salisbury, Maryland. She was born August 23 , 1921 in Gordon, Georgia. She was the only child to the late George and Vinnie Joyner.
Eleanor and her family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in an effort to enhance their quality of life. Eleanor was a graduate of Douglas High School.
Eleanor met and married the late Paul Wright and together they opened their home to several foster children, eventually adopting two of them. Eleanor later married the late Rexford Wright.
“Maude”, as she was affectionaly called by her family and close friends remained a dedicated provider and caretaker to many. Although, Maude had no sibblings she remained extremely close and dependent on her cousin, James, neighbors and friends, Maude’s love for her dear goddaughter Alberta “Sissy” Washington remained until her death.
Eleanor’s love for her church and family and pastors leaves many positive memories. She was a pillar in her community and strived to assit others as needed. To Eleanor, Chance, Maryland was her home, that would not be relinquished until the end.
She leaves to cherish fond memories with: three sons, Gregory J. Wright, Sr., Eddie Wright and Johnnie Ballard; one daughter, Sharmaine Wright; a devoted goddaughter, Alberta Wright; two daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a devoted cousin, James Meadow; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two daughters. Missy and Dorthea Wright and one grandson, Gregory Wright, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20,2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles United Methodist Church in Chance, Maryland, where friends may call 1 hour prior. Friends may also call at the church Friday from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery
