James Joseph “Jimmy” Johnson, Sr.

James JohnsonJames Joseph “Jimmy” Johnson, Sr., 72, of Princess Anne departed this life Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at The Lake in Salisbury.  Born June 19, 1946, he was the son of the late Franklin, Sr. and Beatrice Handy Johnson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Darlene Johnson; three sons, Russell Bailey, Jr. (Yomeka), James J. Johnson, Jr. (Vernita) and Jermaine Johnson; three daughters, Laureen Cheromiah, Dionne Church (Bill) and Denitta Gladding (Dave); 23 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Johnson. Sr. (Ernestine) and Leroy Johnson (Tina); five sisters, Virginia Hardy (Jasper), Roseanne Tilghman, B. Deborah Howell (Sam), Joan “Angel” Collins (Alphonso) and Patricia “Patsy” Johnson; two aunts, Anna Hall and Margaret Johnson; a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin, Jr. and Clinton Melvin “Sonny” Johnson; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, August 3, 2018 at Saint Andrews United Methodist Church in Upper Hill with a viewing one-hour prior.  A viewing will also be held 6:00-8:00 PM August 2, 2018 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.  Interment will be at Mt. Hope A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery.

  1. Darlene, our sincere condolences in the loss of Jimmy. He will be deeply missed by many. May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow.   2. Aunt Darlene…. And to my cousins…. I’m so sorry for your loss. Uncle Jimmy was one of a kind! I’m going to miss him so much. I wish I could be there with my family during this time. Trust and believe you are all in my heart! I love you and will see you soon.
