Joseph Lee Green, Sr., was born, November 21, 1942 to the late William H. Green, Sr. and Naomi Handy Green in Crisfield, Maryland. He departed this life Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Joe went to Collin Street School as an elementary student, and then to Carter G. Woodson, Jr. Sr. High School, from which he graduated in 1961. After graduation he joined the United States Army and spent three years in the military. The majority of his army career was spent in Germany. As a child he was fascinated with trucks. In the military he was in a transportation unit.
In 1974, he left Philadelphia and came back home, where he began working at Paul’s Kitchen until they closed. Joe then he pursued his dream job of truck driving. He was employed as an over the road driver for Hartman out of Pocomoke. His handle on the truck was “Mean Joe Green”. Many of his trucking friends often referred to him by that name. When Hartman went out of business, he then began working at H. Glenwood Evans and Sons where he carried crabs and other seafood to Philadelphia and New York. He continued with Bob Evans until his retirement.
In 2005, he married Frances Fontaine, who preceded him in death in 2015.
Joseph leaves fond memories with one son, William “Markie” Green; one daughter, Tyesha “Nikki” Karume, and her husband, Ben; two stepdaughters, Jamie and Janise Fontaine; seven grandchildren, Ja’keea, Jon’nise, Mar’keira, Mar’Quan, Ja’Niya, Leila and Jaden; six step grandchildren; one sister, Margo Green-Gale; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Joseph was preceded in death by one son, Joseph L. Green, Jr. and one brother, William H. Green, Jr.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Crisfield with a viewing one hour prior. A viewing will also be held 6-8 PM Friday, September 7, 2018 at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Peer Cemetery in Marion Station.

I was so sorry to read of the loss of Joe. I worked with Joe when he was a driver for H Glenwood Evans and Son. Joe was a wonderful man and a good friend. Prayers to his family on their loss.
