Kirk Augustus Jackson, 64, of Crisfield made his heavenly transition on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland surrounded by his children. Born September 27, 1954, he was the son of Evangelist Gertie M. Strasser and the late Albert C. Dix, Sr.

Kirk was educated in the Somerset County public school system and graduated from Crisfield High School in 1972. Upon graduating from high school, Kirk enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served faithful until his honorable discharge.  While on his tour of duty, Kirk gained the opportunity to travel to different countries around the world.

After returning to Crisfield, Kirk was employed at Rubberset, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and retired from the Somerset  County Board of Education as a custodian at Washington High School.

Kirk loved fishing and cooking.  His specialty was his boiled fish and candid sweet potatoes.  Kirk also enjoyed watching sports, Nascar racing, westerns and playing cards.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: one son, Kirk Jackson, II (Tanisha) of Cincinnati, Ohio; five daughters, Tamela Gerald, Vonetta Campbell, Sakena Whittington, Sade’ Sterling, all of Crisfield, Maryland and Corlee Jackson of Salisbury, Maryland; four brothers, Anthony Jackson (Crystal) of Crisfield, Sylvester Jackson of South Dakota, George Dix of Las Vegas and Reginald Jackson of Crisfield; two sisters, Emily Dix and Wendy Presley, both of Wilmington, Delaware; two aunts, Mary Jackson and Lottie Jackson both of Crisfield; 10 grandchildren, Javon Johnson, Jonae Tilghman, Elijah Gerald, Quayshaun Campbell, Jayda Sutton, Janiah Jackson, Aaron Myrick, Jr., Demariah Milbourne, Demara’ Milbourne and Domani Stering and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Leanore Jackson; three brothers, Marlon “Little Phil”, Gregory and  Albert C. “Russ” Dix, Jr., his grandmother, Nellie Cottman, his stepfather, Phillip Strasser, stepmothers, Rachel Hanks and Alice Dix and his play mother, Marion Brickhouse.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Saint James United Methodist Church in Westover, Maryland, with a viewing one hour prior.  A viewing will also be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2019 at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Crisfield, Maryland.

Interment will be at Mount Peer Cemetery in Marion Station, Maryland.

  1. My family and I send out deepest condolences to Kirk and all his family. Lots of memories with this guy talking old times and fishing from childhood all the way to the end. R.I.P my brother. And to the family always remember the good times.
