Mitchell Whittington

Mitchell Whittington was born in Crisfield, Maryland on January 1,1945. He was the son of the late Glenwood Whittington and Ruth Johnson Whittington of Marion Station, Md. Mitchell peacefully departed this life surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital.

He was educated in the Somerset County School System.

He later met and married Carolyn Evangeline Walston of Pocomoke City, Maryland and to this union they had three children Darryl, Dana, and Derek.

Mitchell worked for the Plywood Company of Pocomoke City for 20 years until it closed. He then worked for Mountaire Farms until his retirement.

Mitchell accepted the lord at an early age and continued his mission for the lord until his passing. He was a dedicated member of the Handy’s, Mt. Peer, Liberia charge where he was the musician until his health failed him. He was also the musician for Ebenezer United Methodist Church and for his family group, The Whittington Family Singers. His musical talent was endless, he was a singer, song writer, and a willing vessel for Christ. Whenever he was called, he went without any hesitation.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife,  Carolyn; he leaves precious memories with his children,  Darryl of Salisbury, Dana of Crisfield and Derek of Westover, Maryland; five grandchildren, Treyvon Whittington, Tiya Walston, Sydnee Whittington, Amon Walston, and Michaela Whidbee; two brothers, Wallace of Marion, Maryland and James of Princess Anne, Maryland; a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Elue, and his only sister, Celeste Fontaine.

Mitchell cherished life, he enjoyed being able to make people smile. He always had a funny story to share and enjoyed his family’s church and immediate family. His zest for life will be greatly missed, but we know we will all meet again in glory one day.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Maryland with a viewing one hour prior.  A public viewing will be held 2:00 – 6:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Funeral Home.
