Naomi “Carolean” Thomas

Naomi “Carolean” Thomas, 92,  was born April 28, 1928, to Raymond Agent Ginn and Ella Collick Ginn, in Pocomoke City, Maryland.  She was the 8th child of eleven children.  She entered her eternal rest on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland.   

Carolean, as she was known to family and close friends, early education was in the Johnson Neck One Room School House, then Stephen Long and graduated from Worcester High School.  She was employed at the old Birds Eye poultry plant, which was renamed Campbell Soup, where she retired from in 1990.  After her retirement she worked as a private sitter for a while.   

At an early age, Carolean, joined Shiloh United Methodist Church where she was the President of the Usher Board, a member of the Communion Stewart, Senior Progressive Club and with her family the annual Back Home Day Committee.  She loved to make baby blankets for the new babies of the family and playing dominoes (chicken) at the Mac Center at the Pocomoke Health Department.  Before moving to the nursing Home, Carolean, loved sitting on her porch watching the traffic go by.  During her stay at Peak Health Care at Hartley Hall she loved playing bingo and winning gifts to give to her family.  Carolean, enjoyed visiting with the other residents, attending church services, receiving communion from St. John A.M.E. Church and other churches that offered it to her.  She always said you can never take too much communion.   

She leaves good memories with:   her sister, Marcylee Dedrick;  sister-in-law, Eloise Marshall, both of Pocomoke, Maryland; one son, Cornell (Sylvania) Ginn of Anchorage, AK; 10 grandchildren,  Chauncey Johnson, of Stockton, Marykand, Sharaell Ginn, of Pocomoke,  Melanie (Channing) Ginn-Williams and Monica (Quincy) Byrd, all of Anchorage, AK, Gerri Fitch, Jeremy Fitch and Gerry Laws all of Pocomoke, Michael (Veronica) Johnson, of St. Leonard, Maryland, James Johnson, of Seaford, Delaware, and Brooklyn Johnson, of Pocomoke; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  

Waiting for her at the gates of heaven,  are her son,  Robert (Bobby) Johnson; daughter, Victoria (Vikki) Fitch;  great-grandson, Leonte’ Tre’ Coulbourne; her siblings, Frances Teagle, Annie Bagwell, Bessie Smith, Nadine Jones, Raymond Ginn, Lawrence Ginn, Bernice Holland, Marion (Zobie)  Marshall and Louise Houston.  

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 2655 Worcester Highway, Pocomoke City, Maryland with a viewing one hour prior.  A viewing will also be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Church.  Interment will be at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

  1. Sending My deepest condolences and Prayers during this time ! Carolean,was a second mother to my mother and a grandmother to me! She embraced us as her own! My heart is truly filled with many years of fond childhood memories of “Grandma Carolean” she is forever in my Heart ❤️.
