William Holland, Jr.

William Holland, Jr., better known as Jr., 89, of Princess Anne, MD departed this life on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD.  William was born on May 23, 1932 but over eighty years he celebrated May 7, 1931 as his birthdate.  He was born in Snow Hill, MD to the late William, Sr. and Annie May Taylor Holland.

William received some of his education in Somerset County before having to quit school in order to take care of his mother and siblings.

For many years, William worked at the Old Swiss Poultry Plant in Salisbury which is now Perdue.  He was also an oyster shucker, where he worked at Hop Fisher Oyster House in Mt. Vernon, MD and in Kent Island, MD

William was married to the love of his life, Gloria Anne Dennis on August 2, 1999 but they were together for over thirty plus years before her passing.

William leaves to mourn four daughters, Rebecca Selby (Carl) of Pocomoke, MD; Paula Holbrook (Mac) of Crisfield, MD; Valentina Downing of Princess Anne and Janelle Holland, Baltimore, MD;  two sons, Cornell Holland, Salisbury and William Holland III, New York; two stepsons who he raised, George Cephas, Salisbury and Andre Dennis of Princess Anne; 12 grandchildren (who he took care of and loved dearly); 23 great-grandchildren; his companion dog, Rocky; a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Holland; one brother Preston Lee Holland, and one sister Rose Mary Holland.

A graveside service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2021 at John Wesley (Bowland Hill) Cemetery in Princess Anne.  A viewing will be held 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday, March 26, 2021 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.

  4. Our prayers are with the entire family of Rev. Rebecca V. Selby. We pray that God will give you all the strength and comfort you during this time. You all loved him, but God loved him best. God needed another soldier in his army and he sent for Mr. Holland. We are here if you need us, we are just a phone call away. There’s joy in knowing, you will see him again. Good be with you all.
