James Lee Johnson, Sr.

James Lee Johnson, Sr. age 66 was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2022. He passed away peacefully at his home in Princess Anne, Maryland.

He leaves to cherish two sisters, Mae E. Johnson, and Doretha Warren Johnson; one brother, Horace Johnson, Jr.; two daughters, Dawn Horne (Jayr) and Michelle Johnson; one son, James Lee Johnson, Jr. all of Salisbury, Maryland; four nephews, Alphonso Ward (Tina), Joseph Ward (Tawanda), Horace Johnson and Jermaine Corbin; five nieces, Harriet Corbin (Ronald), Tracy Reddick, Shswan (Meek) Reddick, Tonya Corbin, and Sonya Corbin. He leaves a loving companion of 7 years, Alice White of Princess Anne, Maryland; three granddaughters, Na’uosha Johnson, Liyah Hill, and Armya Horne; three grandsons, Shakor Johnson, Lamont Duggins and Asher Dix; one great grandson, Ny’Lan and a host of great nieces, nephews, and friends.

James Lee Johnson, Sr. AKA “Cool Jimmy “was educated at Somerset High School. James also was an avid music lover of various (genres) of music. He was a member of the “New Echoes of Mercy,” in which he sang his favorite song “Cooling Water.” Jimmy was known for his million-dollar smile, his laughter and wearing his sunglasses; he loved to be around his family at family BBQs and church functions. Preceded in his death is his mother, Anna Mae Maddox, his father, Horace Rudolph Johnson, a brother, Harry J. Maddox, and his grandmother, Herietta Ward.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Anthony E. Ward , Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD with a viewing two hours prior. A public viewing will also be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Samuel Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery in Manokin, MD.

  1. I really am sorry for the loss of Jimmy .I really love to be around him and to just see that smile.He would always keep you laughing and he really love to sing gospel music all by himself.

    1. My condolences Jimmy we will miss you so much. We had good times when you and tree lived with Virgil and I in the town house. We was neighbors for six years on Anne’s Way. Gone but not forgotten Annette, Virgil and Dwayne sleep in Heavenly peace.

  2. James was one of the most kind, generous people you would want to meet, he always had a smile and something funny to say to make you smile, he loved to sing. He will be truly missed. I send my condolences to the family

  6. To the James Johnson family: I express my sincere condolences. Mr. Jimmy and I were good friends, always enjoyed his company and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to take him fishing. He will always be a special person to me.
