Rebecca V. Gaulin

Rebecca V. Gaulin age 85, departed this life on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, Connecticut.  Rebecca was born February 1, 1938, to the late James Rufus Mullen and Emma Mackey Mullen.

“Ma” or “Aunt Bec” as she was affectionately called was educated in the public schools of Somerset County, Maryland.  She attended trade school in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mom was very active and productive in her community and occupational fields; she was very active in foster care, early childhood development and meal preparation for those in need.

She loved her family.  We will miss those homemade rolls, potato salad, chicken, and dumplings.  cooking was Mom’s passion.

Mom was the life of the party, no matter where she went her energy and spunkiness was illuminating.  Oh, yes, she was lots of fun, but when she said back up or off, she meant it!

Today as a family we celebrate and honor her for the valuable lessons of life.

Rebecca married Michael Gaulin; this union lasted for 44 years until his passing.

Rebecca had six children, two of whom preceded her in death, one daughter, at birth and one son, Charles W. Ballard, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Alva R. Moore (John) of Brandon, Florida; a son, Gearet H. Ballard (Jenny Lawler) of New Haven, Connecticut; daughters, Charlene C. Wright (Robert Workman) of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Sheila Brown (Charlie) of Eden, Maryland; a daughter-in-law, Blanche Ballard of Bridgeport; one brother, James Lee Mulllen (Antionette) of Princess Anne, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Evaleen Oneal of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren;  a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, husband, son, and daughter, she was preceded in death by her siblings, George Mullen, Cleveland Mullen, Anginore Tanner, Hattie Scott, Bessie Stevenson, Corraine Mullen, Minnie Palmer, Lorraine Jordan, and Anna Lee Collins; two grandsons, Anthony Ballard and David D. Thompson, Jr.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle,  701 Ocean Gateway, Pocomoke City,  MD with a viewing one hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, July 14, 2023 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD. Interment will be at John Wesley (Bowland Hill) Cemetery in Princess Anne,  MD.
