Alexander Tilghman, Jr.

Alexander Randolph Tilghman, Jr. son of Roseanne Sarah Johnson Tilghman and the late Alexander Randolph Tilghman, Sr. was born February 26, 1967, in Upper Hill, MD. He peacefully departed this life on WednesdayMay 82024 at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, MD. 

He received his education in the Somerset County Public School System.  He was a 1985 graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne, MD. 

He was employed at Bowie Maryland Public Works Department, Solid Waste Division for 35 years.  He left on disability due to health problems. 

He was a true family man. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his loved ones. He traveled home to the Eastern Shore often. He enjoyed the outdoors. Some of his greatest hobbies consisted of working on and rebuilding older vehicles. He loved to fish and loved his oldies music! 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three children, Eusheka (Avery) DeShields and Fulton Collins of Virginia Beach, VA and Adam Stevens of Aberdeen, MD; two stepsons, DJ (Teresa) Stevens and Andre Stevens of Aberdeen, MD; nine grandchildren, Christionna Jones, Christina Jones, Camyrah DeShieldsKyMari DeShields, Gavin DeShields, Jamere Collins, Amya Collins, Brayden Collins, and Zakyrin Collins; two sisters, Veronica (Preston) Scarborough of Marion, MD and Beatrice Tilghman of Lithonia, GA; 13 nieces and nephews; 28 great nieces and nephews; four uncles, Harold (Adalyn) Tilghman of Salisbury, MDRudolph Tilghman of Princess Anne, MDCharles (Ernestine) Johnson, Sr. of Boston, MA and Leroy ( Tina) Johnson of Princess Anne, MD; seven aunts, Elsie Gray of Salisbury, MD, Lucille Townsend, Frances Tilghman and Deborah (Samuel) Howell of Upper Hill, MD, Virginia (Jay) Hardy, of Princess Anne, MD, Joan “Angel” (Alphonso) Collins, of Landover, MD and Annie P “Patsy” Johnson of Crisfield, MD. 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his life partner, Sandra Sandy Stevens; grandparents, Harold and Sarah J. Tilghman and Franklin & Beatrice Johnson, Sr.; a brother-in-law, DaVondale (Pete) Peters; five uncles, Samuel “Bubby” Tilghman, Franklin “Frankie Boy” Johnson, Clinton Melvin “Sonny” Johnson,  James “Jimmy” Johnson and Clarence “Scab” Tilghman; three aunts, Peggy Whittington, Yvonne Coleman and Shirley Williams.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Saint Andrews United Methodist Church, 8242 Upper Hill Road, Westover, MD (Upper Hill) with a viewing one hour prior. A viewing will also be held 2:00 PM-6:00PM Friday, May 24, 2024 at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne, MD. Interment will follow at the Tilghman Family Cemetery, in Upper Hill.
