Shirley Ann Corbin

Three years later after the loss of our father, we find ourselves once again grieving.  With a saddened heart, we mourn the loss of our beloved mother.

Shirley Ann Corbin was born on December 11, 1946, in Pocomoke Maryland.  She departed this life after battling an illness for the last five years on February 17, 2025.

She graduated from Worchester High School in Snow Hill, Maryland, and continued her education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) where she received her bachelor’s degree in business and her master’s in computer science.   Prior to her departure from JP Morgan, she worked as an educator for many years in the Christina School District and was retired after holding various positions in administration and information systems at UMES.

Shirley loved people, at the time of her passing she was enjoying life and a lady of leisure at a Senior Community in Baltimore, Maryland where she was involved in the choir and residents board.

Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior many years ago.  She grew up in Macedonia Baptist Church and later joined Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Maryland and Bethel AME in Delaware.  She was a lover of music and had a voice.  So good, that THEE Pattie Labelle, once asked her to join her on the road at a concert at Carl’s Beach.   She loved the performing arts and making others smile.  Her personality was BIG, she was outgoing and loved to have fun.  Shirley was feisty, outspoken, and very vocal about what she believed in.  She loved her community and performed countless hours of public service work along-side her Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to make a difference.

Shirley was loving, caring, charming, funny, and could always make you laugh.  She was always willing to help somebody and was very resourceful and used her many connections to advocate for anyone.  Shirley loved, loved lipstick, retail therapy, traveling and exploring new places and things.  Dad would always say, “girl what are you doing, now”.  She was always full life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends and reading.  She loved entertaining and gatherings, where she could connect with those, she held dear.  Her laugh was infectious, and she always left an impression.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, O. Floyd Corbin; her grandparents, William Schoolfield and Etta Schoolfield; her uncles Ralph and Earnest Schoolfield; aunts Marie Sturgis and Geneva Care; parents, William Reed and Monture Green; and sister Gloria Walker.

She leaves behind to cherish fond and loving memories: her children, Paul (Trinette) and Corey (Yolanda) Corbin, and Angela Corbin; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother; William Reed; sister; Michelle Green; nephew, David McKinney; uncles, Herbert (Hattie) and William Schoolfield (Barbara), Jr.; first cousin grew up like a sister, (Annette Schoolfield); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, many friends, and Sorors.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 30522 Dr. Wm. P. Hytche Blvd, Princess Anne, MD with a visitation from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM.  Ceremonial rites will be performed at 9:00 AM by Omega Omega by PA Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Interment will follow at Oaksville Community Cemetery near Princess Anne.

  27. Shirley was the first person I met in Delaware after our realtor! We met at the post office! She was so full of joy, exuberance and so incredibly inviting that I was sure I’d met a dear friend! It was a bonus to learn that she was a Soror as well! This was the beginning of many full belly laughs that we exchanged while riding to chapter meeting, visiting our homes, lunch dates and birthday celebrations! We miss her dearly! May the lord keep the family wrapped in his arms as we celebrate Shirley’s homegoing!
