Alexander Alonzo “Mick” Waters, Jr.

Alexander Alonzo “Mick” Waters, Jr, eighty-eight affectional known as “Mick, Big

Mick or Fruit Boy” of Snow Hill, Maryland transitioned peacefully on Wednesday,

March 26,2025 at his residence. Born June 1, 1936, in Girdletree (Box Iron) Maryland, the only son of the late Alexander Alonzo and Flonie Isabel (Parker) Waters.

Big Mick was united in holy matrimony to the late Delores “Dusty” Harmon Waters on May 28, 1958. From this union, they were blessed with five children: Beverly, Lynnette, LaWanda (Jeanne), Alexander (Lil Mick) III and Barry. They also raised four grandchildren: Tyrone, Jonika, Jeffrey and Rakim. Big Mick and Dusty shared 60 years of marriage upon Dusty passing June 6, 2018.

Big Mick received his education in the Worcester County Public Schools. He began working at an early age doing various jobs where eventually he became a long-distance truck driver for more than 30 years. He drove for Buddy Boy Processing Plant, Perdue Farms, Inc. (Where he gained his CB handle “Fruit Boy”) and Frank Jones Lumber Company. He later became employed with the Worcester County Government Public Works Department from which he retired in 2009. Retirement life became too “Boring,” for a man of his caliber so he went to work for Todd Burbage maintaining his farm at Public Landing. He finally hung up his work gear in 2021, however he continued to find projects at his home and yard, other people’s yards but mostly riding through town in his John Deere Tractor. He keep himself busy until his health began to fail in 2024.

Big Mick’s Christian Journey began at an early age at St. Matthew’s (Box Iron) United Methodist Church in Girdletree, Maryland. He later joined his wife and became a member at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Snow Hill, Maryland where he served on the Trustee Board and was known as “The Bodyguard” for Pastor Markel Thomas. He was an active member of the past Grand United Order of Odd Fellows of Maryland St. John’s Lodge No. 3680 in Snow Hill, Maryland.

Big Mick was an outdoors man always tinkering around the yard and during the winter months he and his boys spent Saturday mornings cutting wood. Anybody that visited the Waters household knew about that wood stove that was always on

“BLAST.” That stove put out so much heat that it would melt the candles that Dusty had hanging on the wall in her candle holders. His children and grandchildren wore shorts and tee shirts all year long while in the house. One grandchild even stated that “All we need is some barbecue sauce and we’re done.”   Big Mick loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally and the feeling was mutual. He and Dusty not only provided a loving home for them but also were able to assist with putting three grandchildren through college for which they were immensely proud.

Big Mick was preceded in death by his wife Delores “Dusty” Waters; a daughter Lynnette Waters-Pumphrey; two grandsons, Tyrone and Rakim Waters; his parents Alexander and Flonie Waters, six sisters: Gladys, Nancy, Frances, Louise, Elsie and Lola; a nephew/brother Wilmer “June” Ames with whom he was raised and who gave him the nickname “Mickey”.

Big Mick leaves to cherish fond memories with two daughters, Beverly Mason and LaWanda “Jeanne” (Orlando) Blake, two sons Barry Waters and Alexander “Lil Mick” Waters, III, seven grandchildren; Jonika (Eric) McKeithan, Jeffrey (Nicole) Taylor, Heather Taylor, Byron (Dollie) Mason, Jonathan (Alysse) Savage, Otis Waters, DeAndre Demby and Bethany (Jacob) Howlin; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; nieces Shirley Bratten, Betty Broughton and Brenda Watson; adopted niece Denise Winder-Long; mother-in-law Marie Foreman; sister-in-law Ruth Jones and a host of other relative’s to include great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Big Mick also leaves a very special cousin/brother Randolph “June” Waters; good friends Elsie Robinson, Randolph “Dr. Love” Milbourne, Cecil Simms, George Dix, Todd Burbage, Ray & Katie Timmons, Wayne and Ruth Young, Norman Taylor and Brian Riley; his riding partners Woodrow and Gloria Shockley; his Ebenezer UMC Charge Church Family and his loving caretakers, Peggy (Peeping Tom) Pruitt, Tonita (My Girl) Waters and Cheryl Johnson.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 107 S. Collins St., Snow Hil with a viewing two-hours prior.

Interment will be at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery in Snow Hill.

My Sincere Condolences to each of you during this time of bereavement. I pray God gives you each the strength to get thru the days ahead. Hold on to the fond memories you have of your love. God will take care of each of you. Mr. Mick was a good friend of my father, the Late Harris Purnell, Sr. and I know the excitement they must be having being together in Heaven. 4. Condolences 🙏 to the family. I worked with Mickey (Gloria) for a number of years at Worcester County. I nicknamed him “Mick Mick” and called him that to this day. I loved to hear him shift the gears on the truck. He always kept me laughing and was very generous. If you needed anything, i.e. money ,food or even a place to stay..he was willing. I have known Mickey (Woodrow) my entire life. Whenever he seen me…I was always greeted with a smile. He became our “Road Dog” in his latter years. Traveling to Church Programs and sometimes to Captain George’s. For years I thought that his name was Mickey and my Mother said…His name is Alexander. Same thing with Dusty…and Mom said no…It is Delores.
So rest in peace Mick Mick…We love you and will miss you.
