Arthur Dexter Horsey

Arthur Dexter Horsey, affectionately known as Dexter or “Art,” peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his home in Glenn Dale, Maryland, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 30, 1955, in Manokin, MD. Dexter entered the world in the home of his aunt, Rannie Ward and lovingly named by his aunt, Ethel Wallace. He was the beloved son of the late Evelyn (Cotton) Marion Horsey and David Lee Horsey, Sr.

Dexter was educated in the Somerset County public school system and pursued higher learning at University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

In time, Dexter relocated from his beloved Eastern Shore to Hyattsville, Maryland, in Prince George’s County, where he built a life and family with his devoted wife of 37 years, Christine Horsey.

Throughout his life, Dexter held a wide range of jobs in Maryland and Washington, DC, including positions with Peninsula Press, Capital Cigar & Tobacco, The Wharf, Michaels Courier, and Speedy Courier, where he delivered medical equipment. His work ethic was undeniable, but it was his passion for life that truly set him apart.

From the moment you met him, Dexter’s energy and charisma were unforgettable. He had a natural ability to connect with anyone, sparking conversations full of humor, insight, and warmth. Even during difficult times, he maintained a resilient and optimistic outlook and encouraged others to do the same. And his ability to diffuse aggression and confrontation was part of what made his character so intriguing. His calm, controlled demeanor allowed him to assess situations and avoid escalation, offering quiet strength when it was needed most.

Most notably, Dexter loved to travel, always opting for the scenic route and never leaving home without an atlas the size of poster paper. A true cartophile, he found joy in navigating – long before GPS became the norm and was eager to teach others the skill. He also had a deep      passion for motorcycles and the free-spirited lifestyle that came with them. When not on the road, he could often be found outdoors or in his garage, working on one project or another.

Moreover, he was a lifelong learner and a proud do-it-yourselfer. If he didn’t know how to do something, he went in search of the answer. Dexter was skilled in numerous trades, including auto mechanics, electrical work, upholstery, plumbing, and even spoke fluent Spanish. As a self-taught bass and 6-string guitarist, Dexter was a one-man band who loved to sing, if you were willing to listen. He lived by a strong sense of independence and curiosity.

Dexter is survived by his loving wife, Christine Horsey of Glenn Dale, MD; his children, Trena Horsey Johnson of Columbia, MD, Trevan (Lyneshea) Horsey of Columbia, Nadiya Horsey of Glenn Dale, MD; beloved bonus daughters, Samantha (Will) Logan of Columbia, MD and Milese Massey of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Keith Jackson, Jr., Kile Johnson, Khalil Jackson, Kamari Jackson, and Summer Horsey; one great-grandchild, Aryia Johnson; siblings, David Lee Horsey Jr. of Princess Anne; Robert Horsey (Deborah) of Salisbury, MD; Phyllis Horsey, Anthony Horsey of Manokin; Tyrone Horsey of Princess Anne; and Jervan Horsey of Bowie, MD.

Dexter held dear his loving in-laws, the Setalsinghs, father-in-law, Daniel, mother-in-law, Nerlin both of Hyattsville, MD, and sister-in-law, Mitzie of Sterling, VA.; He is also remembered fondly by numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of lifelong friends.

Beyond his immediate family, Dexter was a father and grandfather figure to many. He offered a safe, welcoming, and loving environment to all who crossed his path.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamela (Horsey) Spears

His was a life well-lived, filled with love and laughter. Dexter will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
