Bernice “Cookie” Stevenson White

Bernice “Cookie” Stevenson White, daughter of the late William and Bernice Stevenson, was born on November 3, 1949, in Princess Anne, MD.  She departed this life on Friday, August 29, 2025, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital, Salisbury, MD.

“Cookie” was educated in the Somerset County Public Schools and a 1967 graduate of Somerset Junior/Senior High School.  She worked in the childcare field until her retirement.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her great-nephew, Shelton Barkley whom she  raised as her son of Princess Anne, MD; a bonus son,  Edwin “Dean” (Gracie) Jones of Louisburg, NC; a bonus daughter, Charise (Vincent) White-Morton of Lexington Park, MD; one sister, Brenda (William) Stansbury of Annapolis, MD;  one aunt, Sarah White of Delmar, DE; two uncles, David “Fuzzy” Polk and Percy Chase both of Princess Anne, MD.  one special niece, Andrea (Gerry) Hall of Upper Marlboro, MD; one special nephew, David “Dewie” White, Jr. of Chestertown, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward White, Sr. a bonus son, James E. White, Jr, and one niece, Dawn White.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 30683 Hampden Avenue, Princess Anne with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held 3:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, September 5, 2025, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Interment will follow at John Wesley Cemetery (Bowland Hill) in Princess Anne.

  7. Cookie I will miss you coming by for Crabs, and to pick up fish Dean and Gracie would leave you before they went back. I also remember our Friday night visits how we would reminise, your laughter filled the room. To all family and friends Weeping may endure for a night! BUT, Joy Comes in the morning!
