Janice Michele Garcia

Janice Michele Garcia, 66 of Crisfield, Maryland departed this life Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Bay Harbor Post Acute and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury, Maryland. Born June 4,1959 in Crisfield to the late William Gerald and Anna Louise James.

Janice received her education in the Somerset County Public School System. She loved being a part of the marching band as a majorette and a cheerleader for the basketball team.

Janice received her religious foundation at Shiloh United Methodist Church, where she sang with the youth choir and was a junior usher.

Janice was employed by several companies: Metompkin Bay, Sherwin Williams, Alice Tawes Nursing Home and UMES.

In 1980 Janice joined in holy matrimony with Andres Garcia, and lived in Bronx, New York for a few months.

Janice never met a stranger and always wanted to be surrounded by her friends and family. She would have you laughing until you cried. She could also be very feisty and would tell you what was on her mind, whether it was nice or not.  Janice would board a Greyhound bus and travel anywhere in the United States.  She lived in Minnesota, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia, but always returned home to Crisfield.

Janice leaves behind four sons: Derrick (DG) Gerald of Crisfield, Dontez (Beans) Gerald, Denzel (Denny) Gregory, and D’Vonte Gregory (Shrimpy)and his wife,  Heather, all of Salisbury; 28 grandchildren plus one due soon; three sisters, Shirley Washington-Little (Albert) of Salisbury, Kristal Gerald-Wright (Rufus) of Princess Anne, MD, and Victoria Vereen of Bridgeport, Connecticut; a special cousin, Joseph Smith (Florence) of Baltimore, Maryland; lifetime friends, John Conway, Jr., Sheila Brown-Jackson, Yolanda Mitchell, Hope Ward and Dawn Outten; godmothers, Marcella Styles and Lucille Maddox; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Bowman, Jr. (Stretch); sister, Donna Gerald, and “BESTIE” Shirlee Wharton.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 109 N. Fourth Street, Crisfield with a viewing one hour prior. A Public Viewing will also be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2026 at Anthony E. Ward , Jr Funeral Home  in Princess Anne, Maryland.

I will cherish the childhood memories of being on Chesapeake at her mother’s house Ms. Louise & Mr. Freeman.   14. I have many fond memories of Janice in school. She had such a sweet spirit. Whenever we would see one another she was genuinely concerned about me, my kids and family. We would always seem to go back to our high school years.

  15. My sincere heartfelt condolences to the family! A woman that I called sister and the family is mine as well and I grieve with you greatly! A heart of gold and it has saddened me to tears. But I know she’s at rest now and with the Father in heaven! I love you all dearly!

  16. There are some people that leave a lasting impression. Mine goes back to Carter G Woodson before integration when we both walked to the same elementary classes in the morning. At some place our paths separated, but your smile and kindness will always be remembered. Take your rest now as you go with Creator. Condolences to all of your family. Janice may not have give birth to me but I always made the effort to come and see her and hear her calling me daughter 💕🫶🏽. I had all my special moments and memories of her and no matter the distance I will be here . 💕🫶🏽
