Florence Victoria Hollomon was born March 14, 1928, in Crisfield, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Wellington D. and Victoria Sterling Hodges and the sister of Marianne H. Dawson. She departed this life Thursday, July 9, 2026, at her residence.
Florence was married to Harold Algernon Hollomon and this union was blessed with one daughter, Laura Ann Hollomon Draper.
She graduated as Valedictorian of the Crisfield Colored High School Class of 1944. Florence decided to further her education by attending Morgan State University from which she received a baccalaureate degree in Home Economics. She later changed her field of study to elementary education and attended Temple University, Norfolk State University, Virginia State University, and Morgan State University Graduate School. She received her Master of Science degree in elementary education in 1971.
As a professional educator for thirty-three (33) years, Florence “gained the respect of men and women and the love of children.” She began her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher at Crisfield Colored High School. In 1957 she began teaching at Marion Elementary School. Her ability was attested to when the Somerset County Board of Education selected her for a teaching-principal position at Marion Elementary School. She spent twenty-one (21) years of her teaching career at Marion School. In 1980 she was transferred to Carter G. Woodson School as an administrator and remained in this position until her retirement in 1982.
She was a member of Union Asbury U. M. Church and served as a Bible school teacher, Trustee and Church Secretary. She was a member of the National Education Association, Maryland Retired Teachers’ Association, Somerset County Retired Teachers’ Association, Morgan State University Alumni Association, named in the seventh edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 2002, a former member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, Maryland Association of Elementary School Administrators, Inc., and a former member of the Somerset County Library Board of Trustees.
Her thoughtfulness, together with her other attributes inspired all whose lives she touched.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Wellington and Victoria Hodges, her sister, Marianne (Rodman) Dawson, and her beloved husband, Harold Hollomon.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Laura Ann and Francis Draper; her cherished grandchildren, Victoria Draper, Kimberly (James) Sutton, and Quentin Draper; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Ishara, Shimera, and Chester Waller, and Kenton Benton Jr.; two great-great-grandchildren; along with many other family members, dear friends, neighbors, and community members whose lives were touched by her warmth, generosity, and enduring spirit.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home, 30639 Hampden Ave., Princess Anne, MD with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2-6 pm Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens, Hebron, MD.

Condolences to the family, ms.Hollom was one of my favorite teachers and a friend, as we now say BFF. One of my fondest moments as a student she made me say in from recess and I was very upset, I thought she really liked me because I use to carry her apples at least once or twice a week or especially when it was test time! When all other students went outside she come here,so I did and these is what she said, boy you better stop hanging around some of those knuckle heads because they aren’t nothing but trouble and you are a good student but they are going to mislead you in life .I did just that and I will always appreciate her making me stay in from recess that day because some of these knuckle heads are dead or went to jail, thanks ms.Hollom R.I.P. my friend
Ms. Hollomon was the sweetest teacher I had and everybody that no that had her as a teacher says the same thing about her. She had a way with her that make you like her and enjoy the class and she cared about every student . Even after I was out of school if we saw each other we always took the time talk .And you always felt better after. May God be with in you Time of need.

I cherish every moment with this sweet angel. I remember our daily conversations and always feeling uplifted by her presence and words of wisdom. I have the utmost respect for her. Her intelligence, grace, and elegance shine so brightly. She was my role model that I proudly looked up to and confided in.
I decided I would strive for the excellence she had achieved in her career.
When I learned of her passing my heart sank to the deepest depths of the ocean.
I have peace knowing she is safely Home and filled with Joy Unspeakable and Full Of Glory.
