Terry Lee Purnell

Terry Lee PurnellTerry Lee Purnell, beloved son of Ella L. Purnell Leatherbury and the late Arthur “Moot” Purnell was born on June 2, 1956 in Kingston, Maryland.  He departed this life on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his Somers Cove Apartment in Crisfield, Maryland.

Terry graduated from Crisfield High School in 1974.  He was one of the starting five of the “Mighty” Crisfield Crabbers Basketball Team.  He studied Sociology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES).  He served in the United States Army for seven months and received an honorable discharge. He also studied and graduated in Computer Science in Salisbury, MD.

Terry worked in the seafood industry; he was employed with Phillips Seafood Restaurant.  His greatest passion and loyalty was laying carpet, flooring and tile, he loved this type of work and did it for many years.

Terry was lovingly known as “T-Bone” by his favorite cousin Peggy, who adopted him as her baby brother.  He was also was known as “Purn” by other relatives and friends. Terry had a great smile and his laughter was addictive that the sound of it would make you laugh, even when you didn’t know what he was laughing about. Terry would have long debates with his daughter, Tashanna, about life, cooking and basketball; they both played on teams in school (Lebron vs Kobe).  He would also have debates and discussions with his friends, Keith B., Ronald Paige, Troy and others (they know who they are).

Terry loved gospel music, good church services and 70’s soul jams, people and animals especially birds. He was intrigued with lightning, when it lit up the sky.

Terry was a dedicated father, son and brother and a devoted companion to his beloved Rawley Rae and their cat Smokey “Mokey”.

In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Tashanna N. Brown of Crisfield; two sisters, Kimball L. Purnell of Salisbury and Lynette Johnson of Delaware; one brother, Fernell Johnson of Delaware; several nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.  In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his devoted companion of many years, Rawley Ames.

A funeral service will be held 1 PM, Saturday, December 21, 2013 with a viewing two hours prior, Elder Ronald Deal will be the Eulogist.  There will also be a viewing held 6-8 PM, Friday, December 20, 2013, all services will be held at the Funeral Home in Princess Anne, Maryland.

Interment Private.

  1. I will always miss you! You were my strength, my friend. I am still unable to process the silence…………it’s unreal. Love isn’t even what we had …..we were , I know…….put in each other’s path to get through and Strengthen each other. You knew the real me , and I knew the real you. I am so blessed….to have gotten the Gift of being your “Best” friend. Terry,. Now you are back home with Rawley! I also know that you will continue to guide my footsteps every step of the way!
