Thomas Henry Maddox

Thomas Henry Maddox, lovingly known as “Tom” or “Tommy” to his family, departed from this life on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at TidalHeath: Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland. Thomas was the son of James Sr. and Maria Maddox, born on December 20, 1955, in Fairmount, Maryland.

Thomas’ journey began in Somerset County, Maryland, where he attended local public schools, graduating from Washington High School in 1974. His early years set the stage for a life full of relationships and achievements that many admired.

In 1977, Thomas married Dena Faye Hyland, with whom he shared a profound and lasting love. Together, they raised their daughter, Shawna, embodying the family values that Thomas held dear. After Dena’s passing in 2010, Thomas was fortunate to find love again and married Karen Ames in 2014, with whom he shared his life until her passing in 2019.

Thomas’ professional life was marked by dedication and hard work, with years spent at The Campbell Soup Company in Pocomoke City until its closure in 1989. Followed by a fulfilling career at Spartech LLC in Salisbury, from which he retired in 2023. Outside of Spartech, Thomas was a beloved and familiar face in the community, often found shucking oysters with his brothers at Roger Dize Seafood Oyster House. He was a man of simple pleasures – his love for cars, boating, and seafood was only surpassed by his love for his family.

An active member of the Apostolic Revival Center, Thomas served as an usher, a member of the Men’s Ministry, and, in his latest position, as Security. In this position, he not only watched over the premises but also the hearts of those he interacted with. His generosity and willingness to help others were legendary; he was the type of person who would go out of his way to assist anyone in need.

Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his daughter, Shawna (Randy) Maddox-Morrow; two granddaughters, Destiny Maddox and Reagan Morrow of Salisbury; his mother, Maria Maddox of Lower Fairmount; eight siblings, Mable (George) Collins of Lower Fairmount, James Maddox, Jr. of Lower Fairmount, Robert Maddox, Sr. of Delmar, Maggie Collins of Lower Fairmount, Arthur Maddox of Upper Fairmount, Marie Corbin of Princess Anne, Russell (Kim) Maddox of Eden, and Emma (Leroy) Manuel of Lower Fairmount, one aunt, Mary Hutchinson of Easton; a play-son, Ronald “Reese” Maddox of Salisbury, very close friends, Emory Ford, Roger Dize, and James & Sandra Milbourne, as well a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his father, James Maddox, Sr., and wives Dena and Karen Maddox.

Thomas’ life was a story of resilience, compassion, and unconditional love. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who knew him as a beacon of kindness and generosity. As we say goodbye to Thomas Henry Maddox, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with moments of joy, companionship, and unwavering commitment to family and friends.
