Charles Edward Ballard, Sr.

Charles Edward Ballard, Sr., lovingly known as “Sonny” to his family, departed from this life on Friday, May 4, 2012 at McCready Hospital in Crisfield, Maryland. Charles was the son of Priscilla Drummond and the late Wilbert Jones, he was born on July 7, 1963.

Charles attended schools in Somerset County for several years and graduated from Camden High School in New Jersey. He was employed at Heritage Farms in Pocomoke City, Maryland. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Upper Fairmount, Maryland. Charles and his wife Bonita opened there home to foster children for over  years. Those who knew Charles will remember him as an easy going and good natured man, who loved the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia 76ers and cleaning his “fancy” cars. Charles was willing to help those that needed assistance.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 23 years, Bonita Annette Ballard; one daughter Shelia Renee Ballard of Upper Fairmount; one son Charles Edward Ballard, Jr. of Upper Fairmount; his mother, Priscilla Drummond of Princess Anne; four sisters, Loretta( Floyd) Turner of Princess Anne; Donna Ballard and Christina Ballard, both of Glassboro, New Jersey and Tina Ballard of Princess Anne; one mother-in-law, Maggie Mae Collins of Westover; grandparents-in-law, James and Marie Maddox of Westover; one brother-in-law, Elwood(Tishara) Collins of Marion Station; three very close friends; Linwood Jones, Brian Trolio and Obie Sneed, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Jones; his stepfather, Wesley Ballard; a grandmother, Nettie Priscilla Stevenson, better known as “Granny”; two brothers, Kenneth Ballard and Alfred Ballard and father-in-law, Elwood Collins, Sr.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Princess Anne, Maryland.  Friends may also call at Anthony E. Ward Funeral Home on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Interment will be held at John Wesley (Bowland Hill) Cemetery in Princess Anne, Maryland.
