Joan M. Hill-Dashiell, 51, affectionately known as Joni, was born on March 4, 1972, to John and Regina B. Hill, in Crisfield, Maryland. Joan answered her Heavenly Father’s call and quietly departed this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland.

On August 15, 2011, she began her employment as a teacher in Somerset County Public schools. In 2017 she was the Greenwood Elementary School Teacher of the year. In March 2022, she was promoted to the position of Counselor.

Joan was a faithful member of Shiloh U.M. Church in Crisfield, Maryland where she served in many capacities Adult/Teen Dance Ministry, Vacation Bible School Chair, Kitchen Committee, Shiloh Pastoral Relations Committee Chair, Lay servant, the Unity Choir and Youth Ministry.

In 2005 Joan was united in marriage to Anthony Dashiell, Sr. She moved to Fruitland, Maryland. She joined New Dimensions in Salisbury, Maryland in March 2019 where she served on the Decorating and Floral committees. She graduated from the Christian World College of Theology in 2018. Joan loved traveling to attend Women’s Christian Retreats and was a member of Sisters in Prayer.

Joan loved her family and loved to travel. She truly loved the Lord and was a faithful servant until her illness. She had many gifts and talents and used them for the glory of God!

  19. I have never written a condolence but this one somehow hits different. My sincere condolences to Mr. John and Mrs Regina ( my parents lifelong friends) while I haven’t been in contact with Joan in awhile; the memories of our childhood have been overwhelming. From our days at Shiloh UM of Crisfield. We learned our first scripture verse together, our first hymns together on the little lights choir waiting anxiously for our red robes to be on the big youth choir, to competing in the Lil Miss Shiloh( sorry my mom mom Marg Whitt was a beast every year selling those fish and chicken sandwiches to keep me on top😂), to our secret alliance for me to remain an extra year on jv cheerleading squad and your first year on varsity so we could both be captains at the same time 😂to us dominating as captains in the band front at the same time same year. I’m truly shook at this moment. But what I’ve realized through this last week is once a Shiloh youth always a Shiloh youth. Nothing can unsettle a foundation well built and that’s what Shiloh gave us. A healthy competition we shared… rest easy Joan❤️Again my love and prayers to Mr and Mrs John Hill during this time. You both have been in anchor in my life. While our families chose to be friends for a lifetime, Shiloh made us family❤️

  20. Ohh.Just a few words. To Ms Regina Hill, John and the family. We know there is one who is no stranger to suffering. Yet, for the hope that was set before Him….He endured…for our sake, that joy may cometh in the morning. So many joyous memories flood my memories. They obscure the pain for a moment. So I offer this one shining thought…it was her smile and eyes that went beyond the present. Somehow woven together to share a glimpse of forgiveness and of Gods love that holds no secrets. Joans eyes and smile were like gates to a grassy path to eternity, where children laugh and play a!omg their way. This I remember with joy, peace and honor…Joseph and Jackie Mccready, your neighbour and special friends forever.

  30. Mrs Regina, Mr John and family my sincere condolences doing this difficult time. Joan always brought a smile whenever she entered a room. She has touched so many and will truly be missed. Sending prayers of comfort🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

  31. Joan you have touched so many lives. When I taught withJoan I was moved from Princess Anne to Greenwood after previously from Deal Island for about 16 yrs However, God is in the details. Joan was my neighboring classroom and always a breath of fresh air. She taught me two things although I never expressed this to her! One was just roll with it. You will eventually like it! And I loved Greenwood and it’s children. The other thing that’s important is how Joan made you feel. She was extremely empathetic. Unless you have taught the youngest school children the energy alone to keep up with them is exhausting. She did it with Finesse! I will miss you my friend and co-worker. You left us too young! I know you will have a special job I. Heaven and you will do it with that amazing smile! Prayer to the family.

  32. Cousin John and Regina my prayers are with you and the family. I can’t imagine your pain of losing a child, but one thing I know God’s love, peace and compassion for you will help heal your broken your heart. 💔
Lean on God to comfort you during the days that your lovely daughter will no longer be with you. 💜💔🙏🏽
Sending my deepest sympathy and love.

  33. Your lovely daughter worked with my late daughter Kara Perry at Metompkin Elem. School in Parksley, VA many years ago…my daughter loved her fondly and shared many good times together and shared those stories with me…ironically they are both enjoying the blessings of Heaven…what a joyful reunion…both taken from us too soon! My sincere condolences to you her husband, her parents, her family, and hosts of friends…may her memory be a blessing…

  34. My heart and prayers go out to Joan’s family. One memory of her that I have is her riding her bike up and down Cheasapeake with her dad in tow. May God bless and carry the family through this hard time and may Joan rest in the joyfulness of paradise!
