Michael Maurice Ballard, 72, of Princess Anne, Maryland departed this life Monday, April 13, 2026, at Manokin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Princess Anne after a lengthy illness. Michael the eleventh child of twelve born on April 13, 1954, to the late Pastor Isaac S. Ballard Sr. and the late Cecie E. Ballard.
Michael was educated in the Somerset County Public School System and graduated from Washington High School in Princess Ann in the class of 1972. After graduating high school Michael attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where he studied Business Administration. After leaving college he began working for E. Mace Smith/Con and Bock Feed and Grain as one of the transfer supervisors. Michael would later leave there and begin work with the Maryland State Division of Corrections at ECI in Princess Anne for a number of years. Following his employment, he would finish his work career at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where he worked until his medical retirement.
Michael joined New Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor Hugh C. Nichols.
Michael is survived by four brothers, Apostle Isaac S. Ballard, Jr. and wife Evangelist Hazel Ballard, Minister Calvin E. Ballard Sr. and wife Sharonne R. Ballard all of Princess Anne, Minister Jesse T. Ballard and wife Lula Ballard of Quantico, Maryland and Paul W. Ballard and companion Kathy of Virginia; two sisters, Mildred Ballard of Princess Anne and Vanessa Carter of Salisbury, Maryland; his companion, Dorine Croswell of Mt. Vernon, Maryland; one son, Durrell Croswell of Princess Anne; two stepchildren, James Croswell and Rhonda Turner; several grandchildren; three special nieces, who helped care for him as their father, Corleesa Dixon, Nicole Bozman and Tara Harman; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 30683 Hampden Avenue Princess Anne with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, May 1, 2026, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
Interment will follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Princess Anne (Dublin) Maryland.
