Gladys Lena Avery Scott fell asleep in death on Friday, September 26, 2014, in Princess Anne, MD. She was 91. She was born to the late James Henry Avery and Lula Heath Avery on April 26, 1923, in Augusta, GA. She received her education in the Public School System of Augusta, GA and completed her post-secondary education in New York City.
Gladys met and married her childhood sweetheart Willie James Scott, Sr. on June 15, 1940. She was married to her beloved husband, Willie James for nearly 70 years, who preceded her in death on May 4, 2010. They were the best of friends. Of this blessed union, two children were born to them, Joyce Scott and Willie James Scott, Jr.
Gladys, a faithful and dedicated servant of Jehovah God for 34 years, began her faithful walk on January 11, 1980. One of the greatest joys she and her loving husband “Willie James” enjoyed through their years was living as Witnesses of Jehovah and proclaiming Kingdom truths to all they met. One of the many jewels of their ministry was gaining a spiritual daughter along the way. Sister Ola Milligan remained ever dear in their hearts.
The united hope of Gladys and Willie James remained in the promise of a resurrection to a restored life, in an earthly Paradise under God’s righteous rule.
Gladys leaves behind, to cherish her memory, a daughter, Joyce J. Scott of Randallstown, MD; a son, Willie James Scott, Jr. (Wilhelmina’ Tanya’) of Missouri City, Texas; two grandchildren, Faraja Bryant-Ricketts (Marcus) of York, PA, and Anthony Bryant, Jr. (Almeretta Tyson) of Severna Park, MD, two great grandsons, Dalando Anthony Bryant (Adia) of Owings Mills, MD and Anthony Bryant III of Marietta, GA, one great-great granddaughter, Camille Maria Bryant of Atlanta, GA, and a host of dearly loved brothers and sisters of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM Saturday, October 4, 2014 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Westover, Maryland.
